Introduction
This series of lessons is designed to acquaint the learner with the Bible and its meaning and use for all ages, including the present. It will consist of ten lessons in which a general discussion of the Bible and Bible principles will be the focus. It is the author's belief that we can all understand the Bible alike and there is no valid reason for the religious differences that exist among humanity. The Bible is the Word of God and written for all of mankind, regardless of the background of any person. This writer believes the Bible is a divinely inspired book that came from God and adequately supplies us with everything we need in order to please Jehovah and enter into heaven(II Timothy 3:16-17).
In order to continue the trip, we will focus on some basic principles in our introduction to the lessons that follow. Each lesson will begin with a short discussion of the contents as well as the procedure to follow in completing the lessons. The lessons will contain questions for you to answer after reading the contents of each lesson. After answering the questions in each lesson, you will be able to go to the next lesson. Please consider the following:
The Bible is the Word of God. This expression occurs in thirty-six verses in the Bible (King James Version). "And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness"(Acts 4:31).
The Bible is complete and perfect, furnishing men with everything they need to be able to become "perfect" in God's sight. "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works"(II Timothy 3:16-17).
The men who wrote the books in the Bible were guided by Jehovah in writing their messages. "If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord"(I Corinthians 14:37).
The Bible contains the standards by which all men will be judged. "In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel"(Romans 2:16).
The Bible is not a dead book of the past. It is a living message that will last throughout all generations of this life. "For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart"(Hebrews 4:12).
