Spring 1997

Title: Introduction to Agricultural Policy

Text: R. D. Knutson, J. B. Penn, and B. L. Flinchbaugh.
Agricultural and Food Policy. (Fourth Edition).



2. Instructor:

Office Hours: 1:30-3:30 p.m. daily

3. Prerequisite: AAE 258 and ECN 107 or permission of department

4. Objectives of the Course:

The overall objective of the course is to improve students' understanding of
how domestic and international policies affect agriculture, agribusinesses, and
rural economies. Specific objectives are (1) to identify economic and
environmental problems in the food and agricultural sector, (2) to identify
relevant policy alternatives as solutions to the problems, and (3) to assess the
economic consequences of alternative agricultural policies.




5. Examinations:

Three hour exams will be given during the quarter, and a final exam will be
given at its regularly scheduled time. Exams are scheduled as follows:

If a student would like for the instructor to re-grade a particular answer on
the exam, the student may submit a written statement to the instructor. The
written statement should include documentation and should be submitted
within one week after that exam has been returned to the class.

6. Make-up Examination Policy

The only make-up exam will be given on Wednesday, June 4, 1997 during
2nd period. This make-up exam will be comprehensive. Only those students
who were unable to take one of the other three exams are eligible to take the
make-up exam.





7. Grading Policy

Three hour exams and a final exam will be given. The average of the four
test scores and other assignments will constitute the overall course average
.

First exam 20%
Second Exam 20%
Third Exam 20%
Other Assignments 20%
Final Exam 20%

The course grade, which is based on the overall average is determined as
follows:

		Average 	      Grade 

90-100 = A
80-89 = B
70-79 = C
60-69 = D
Less than 60 = F





8. Attendance Policy

Students with more than five cuts without physician excuses will be
administratively withdrawn from the course.

9. Academic Honesty Policy

Students are expected to do their own work and to adhere to the standards
of academic honesty as described in the University Bulletin. Any infractions
will be referred to the appropriate University office for a hearing.

10. Purpose of the Syllabus

The course syllabus provides a general plan for the course; deviations may
be necessary.
