Erwin, along with his sister Itzel, came to the orphanage in August, 1998. At the time that the children came, their father was receiving treatment at the rehabilitation center, that is also run by Grupo Amor, the same congregation that founded and supports the orphanage.

As part of the treatment program, the members of the rehabilitation center work around the orphanage, cutting the grass, doing construction work, etc.

The children’s father has completed his program, but realizes that he cannot go back and live in the same environment as before. He has asked that the children, (the two oldest) come to the orphanage, while he and his wife and two younger children move to Colima, and establish themselves with a new job and home.
