Religion:

Dress codes, mind control, corporate control or "warm fuzzies"?

Religion, according to man's definition and usage of the word:

religion
, n. [O.FR. Fr. religion, < L. religio(n-); origin uncertain.]
1. Recognition on the part of man of a controlling superhuman power entitled to obedience, reverence, and worship;
2. the feeling or the spiritual attitude of those recognizing such a controlling power, with the manifestation of such feeling in conduct or life;
3. the practice of sacred rites or observances;
4. a particular system of faith in and worship of a Supreme Being or a god or gods;
5. the state of life of the members of a religious order;
6. a practice of devotion or conscientiousness, as: He has made a religion out of making money.

In other words, by our actions or words, religion can be any or all of the following:

1. The realization and acceptance that there is someone bigger, smarter, older and more powerful than us. A healthy respect or "fear" that our actions may have repercussions beyond this life.

2. A "warm fuzzy feeling", or "an attitude", and the resulting change in one's behavior, if any.

3. Rituals varying from outrageous to ridiculous, criminal or insane.

4. Different corporate structures, business plans and marketing strategies.

5. A lifestyle, varying from the "health and wealth" gospel to the "dress weird to be holy" groups, and from the "mind controlled" to the "mindless social clubs".

6. The most popular "practice" of all, the religions of sports, leisure, wealth, business, power, fame, beauty or material things.

Religion, according to God's word, the Bible:

"Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world." Jas. 1:26
