Valley Good Guys ARC April 2009 Newsletter
From your pres, KC6NBQ,
Hi to everyone, and hope this finds everyone healthy. If you get this just remember our meeting is this coming Friday, April 10th at Round Table Pizza, Saticoy and Louise, just west of Balboa. Please pass this to any other person that would like to come to our meeting.
We will be discussing and voting on something that the club should be interested in. Also everyone did get an email of what this is all about. If you forgot, it is to let members of ARES use our auto-patch and repeater for their emergency response in time of an emergency. Only a few of their members will be using our auto-patch which the members will vote on at this meeting. You the members are the ones that keep our repeater going and I hope you will all be there. The party in question will give us a list of his members that will be using our auto-patch. I will add the email I sent out before at the end of this message.
Our dues are due now and will be late after May 1st. I am not pressing at this time, but would like to know how many plan to renew this year. The dues are the same as always. We have over 95% full members and that is great. I hope we can do it again this year. Our repeater has been going strong for as long as I can remember. I know older hams in our club can give you more details on this. All renewals go to support out repeater and any other donations will be greatly accepted.
I have some sad news as one of our old time friends and
past member is in the hospital. Not sure how many know Al
Levy, AA6LW, but he wants to say hi to everyone. He is 90
plus years young and has pneumonia and at this time he is in
As I needed a wheel chair, I would like to thank George Boyd, WB6INV, as he introduced me to a friend of his and he had one for me. My daughter-in-law needed one and I gave her the one my wife has had from Kaiser Prmanente and didnt want Kaiser to bill me when they want it back. Not sure if Kaiser would charge me a million bucks for it or not, HI, HI
Glen Roe, WA6MHA, has been busy making weather stations for a few clubs and as soon as a person finds out what he has learned they are bugging him to build one for them. With him working STILL, I dont know where he finds the time. I am sure he will tell you more at our meeting what it is all about. He is still taking care of our IRLP as it is still working flawlessly. He is also taking care of his mom.
*Following has been sent to all members before. It is only for your information if needed.*
During our last meeting we had Dennis Smith, KA6GSE of ARES. He said a few of his members would like to use our auto-patch for emergency use. They are trying to get repeaters from different areas to help coordinate when a disaster happens. His idea would be to use our auto-patch from repeaters when the phone lines went down in one area or another. He said only a few hams would be using the patch. He will give us a list of the ones that would be using it. My idea (if this works out) was that they would have to give there call followed with the name ARES and then Auto-patch. His idea was not to join, but he said that when the ones that would be using the patch may join once they get hooked. This would only be a trial bases, maybe a couple of months. This could be enforced by changing the auto codes and giving our members the new codes as been done in the past.
Our machine has been on line for many years as everyone knows. It would be a shame if we couldnt keep it going for a long time to come. You can count on me to do what I can to help in any way I can. Everyone that I talk with likes the pizza meetings and having it once a month does not impose on ones calendar, I hope!
If this meets our members OK then at our next meeting we can vote on it. If there is any other input, just email it to me or call and leave a message on my answer machine 818.768.0855.
Membership renewal is this May or before and this will tell us where we stand for next couple of years. We have to be prepared in case we dont make the rent. All is well at this time.
Remember if you are a full member you have a vote on what we should do.
Best wishes for the holidays that are coming to you and your family.
Your pres,
Marv Zauss,
KC6NBQ
