As he lay beneath the rich man's gate
crying out in pain -
Begging for crumbs of food,
bitter life to sustain.
No one knew his sufferings,
People passed him by each day -
Lazrus lay beneath the rich man's gate,
as life slowly slipped away.
He never asked to dine at the table,
only for crumbs that reached the floor -
Yet no one cared about his needs;
He cried out, 'til he could cry no more.
No one mourned his absence,
Not one tear was shed -
But Jesus' heart was broken,
for His sheep was never fed.
His needs were turned toward Heaven,
Where Jesus heard his cries -
The wrath of God was kindled
at those who watched him die.
"FOR EVEN AS YE HAVE DONE UNTO THEM,
YE DO ALSO UNTO ME,"
But until the flames of hell consumed them,
They could not understand or see.
As Christians we must reach out with love,
helping those in need -
Giving water to those who thirst,
To those who hunger, we must feed.
For if we love the Shepherd,
we must also love His sheep -
We must feed them when they hunger,
We must reach out when they weep.
For in failing, their blood is upon us,
Even though we may not see -
For Jesus said, "AS YE DO UNTO THEM,
YE DO ALSO UNTO ME."
