(8/99) Please note that beginning with the 1999/2000 school year, the school will provide a specially produced Assignment Calendar. Parents will be asked to purchase the calendar for $5.00.

(6/99) Were you wondering....what will I need for SIXTH GRADE? As you come to the end of your fifth grade year, it is now the time to think about what you will need for your sixth grade year. You will need to bring the following supplies to the first day of school. Teachers vary in their supply needs beyond these basic items. Each teacher will give you a list of any additional items needed in September.

• small pencil sharpener with holder for shavings
• 3 black or blue ball point pens

(11/99)Each year, sixth graders enjoy special activities. Mrs. Carol McCauley is in charge of coordinating sixth grade activities this year. Participation in these activities is subject to behavior standards set forth at the beginning of the year. We feel most, if not all students, will be able to follow behavior guidelines with success. The criteria below will be discussed with students so they will understand and practice the behavior expected for participation in our sixth-grade activities.

Behavior(9/12/96) A primary goal of education in the Glendale Unified School District is to assist each student to develop self-discipline and responsible, cooperative behavior. To achieve this goal, Monte Vista will incorporate a behavior monitor system into our sixth-grade program. This system will determine eligibility to attend extra-curricular trips and activities.

It is essential for your child's safety and enjoyment, as well as that of all the other students, that the teacher can depend upon responsible behavior and a positive, cooperative, respectful attitude. If a child has received sufficient detention slips, suspensions or classroom behavior reminders to constitute a concern about his or her ability to follow rules, and make responsible choices, then attendance at special activities will be restricted. Parents will be notified if your child will be assigned to another classroom during an event.

What is Camp Highland? (8/98) Camp Highland is a special time in for our 6th grade students. They attend a 4-day camp with their teachers and the principal to learn many new things about science. (The camp is located in Palm Springs area about 2 hours drive).

Sixth Grade Fun Day. (8/98) Sixth grade fun day happens just before the end of the school year. It starts with a special breakfast and is followed by a fun filled day of bowling, ice skating, lunch and good times. Fun Day activities are held at the Pickwick Center in Burbank. Lockers are available for 50 cents. Students should bring heavy socks for ice skating. Tennis shoes with white soles may be worn for bowling, or shoes are provided. Lunch will be a hot dog and drink. Students may want to bring money to purchase extra food and play video games (No more than $10, please).

Gift Wrap Sales ===> Earn Your Way to Camp Highland. (8/98) In order to fund the sixth grade activities, each fall the sixth grade class holds a gift wrap fund raiser. The approximate cost of the four-day Camp Highland trip and sixth-grade activities will be approximately $180 per student. If your child sells $360 worth of Innisbrook products, this entire cost will be covered. We are pleased to be able to offer the opportunity of the Innisbrook fundraiser to our students as their products are of excellent quality and have been well received in the past. Our school keeps 50% of every Innisbrook Wraps Sale.

(8/98) This fall, get ready to SMILE AWHILE with our Innisbrook Wraps fund-raiser. The sixth-grade class will be selling Innisbrook gift wrap, ribbons, bows, totes, bags & tags,gift items galore, gourmet treats & sweets. to raise money for the Outdoor Education Program at Camp Highland and other sixth-grade activities. The sale begins on the first day of school. All orders must be turned in by September 22nd. Before any selling can be done, the permission form must be signed and returned to the classroom teacher. We have discussed the following points with the children, and we hope you will review them again with your child.

• Do not.... enter the buyer's home during sale or delivery, sell or deliver after dark, sell alone (unless you know the neighborhood), charge sales tax.

• Do....Inform parent when leaving to sell and give expected time of return, dress appropriately, turn in your order form by 9/22, have customers make checks payable to Monte Vista School, advise customers that orders will be ready in early November, collect money when taking orders, and add $.25 per item for processing.

• Parents... double check the brochure order form, then carefully transfer the totals to the student order summary form.Please verify your child's order and sign the envelope before returning it to school on or before the September 22nd deadline. Your Innisbrook brochure will be returned to you when the products arrive for delivery. (Early November)

Sixth Grade Promotion. (8/98) Generally, on the last day of school, 6th grade will dismiss at 11:30 AM. Promotion ceremonies are held at Rosemont amphitheater (students need to arrive at Rosemont by 1:00 PM). There will be no advance seating for parents until 1:15 PM. Promotion begins at 1:30 PM and should last approximately one hour and 15 minutes. Hats and something to sit on is highly recommended if the weather is warm.

Student Attire at promotion exercise: Girls should wear a good dress or skirt and blouse, but not an extremely fancy party dress. A longer dress is suggested for comfort on the hard chairs and heat. Please, no high heels, (heels no thicker than 1"), no stapless or narrow strap dresses, (straps should be at least two inches wide) and no bare midriffs or make up. Boys should wear dress slacks with white or colored button-front shirts. Please, no tee shirts or jeans. Ties, coats or jackets are optional.

Rosemont is a Blue Ribbon Middle School, as most of the sixth graders know. For all of you who don't know, Rosemont is known for its curriculum and great teaching staff. Well, Rosemont offers many different activities, such as:

• bake sales
• dances
• hippie day
• outside assemblies
• and much more

There is a Howdie Day for all new seventh graders to introduce them to Rosemont.

When you finally make it to sixth grade, you will have an orientation meeting. There you will learn all the electives Rosemont has to offer, such as:

• foods
• metal shop
• wood shop
• Spanish
• French
• visual communications
• and many more

I hope this gives you a better look at what Rosemont will be like.
