A Vampire's Lament- part 3

by Steven J. D. Bean

There is no way to describe the torment
Every time I take a sip of what life has to offer-
Or the pleasure.
To see life go on around you
And be no part of it-
That is true death.
Even when you walk among the living.
Yes, I walk among the living
I feel their warmth
Hear their words and thoughts
Feel the pulse of their existence.
Live their fears.
I am beyond the point of remembering
The beat of my own heart
And yet- I am still here.
More alive than ever you could imagine.
More dead than ever you could fear.
I am.

Lost in a world I cannot understand.
Trapped in a darkness you cannot see.
Forever,
I am alone.
