An Earthworm Jar

by request.

Have you ever stopped to wonder why
When up above is cloudless sky
We rush about to work each day
And cramped in offices we stay?
While all the while the birds do sing
The flowers bloom as bees they bring
From nature's honey nectar sweet
While off we go, rush in to meet
Behind closed doors in dim false light
While out-of-doors the sun shines bright.
Every day the same affair
While nature's beauty's always there.
And then we act with such suprise
When nature's glory fills out eyes
And once again we finally see
The honey dripping from a bee.
Removing business suits with care
We hear the bird's songs in the air
Has human nature changed so much
That we have lost the natural touch
That fills a child's heart with glee
The first time that he climbs a tree
Or when he wakes at dawn to hear
The sparrow's chirping voice so clear
Looks out to see the sunny day
And wonders where his mind will play.
To chase about the butterflies
Or dig a hole in earnest tries
To reach our Chinese friends afar
Or, just from sleep an earthworm jar.

Oh, how I'd like to go and see
What nature's wonders hold for me
But, such the curse of this great age
It's off to work to earn my wage.
Perhaps, if lucky, I will spy
Through window's glass a bird fly by
But more than likely all I'll see
Is boss's angry eyes on me.
I'll stare into my blackened screen
With it's figures flashing green
But in my mind I'll wonder why
I let this precious time go by.
I could be watching nature's show
The performance of a lifetime know
Instead, I chose to find my way
In this mad world we've mad today.
To gain the comfort of this cage
'Till overworked and worn with age
They'll send me on my merry way
No longer needed, I can't stay
And then again, to my suprise
Nature will fill my half-blind eyes
And once again I'll wonder why
I missed th flowers, birds and sky
And then I'll finally be a part
Of nature's glory, as my heart
Stops beating and they dig the hole
To place me in, at least I'll go
To see the wonders off afar
Or just from a sleep an earthworm jar.
