THE CEREAL PROJECT
First, invent a new cereal based on a favorite novel or short story you have read this year.
Then do the following different things with your cereal.
1. Create the cereal box. You need to make the entire box, all sides and edges. Decide on the color and shape the cereal will be and the ingredients it will feature. Design the box and the features of the box. Make sure that all that you do relates to the novel or short story.
2. Write a t.v. ad for the cereal and stage it. Once again the script and the presentation should tell us something about the novel or the short story. This is a good place for you to introduce characters and setting.
3. Make up a recipe for some food using your cereal. This can relate to what would have been eaten in the novel or short story or relate to some aspect of the book. If you want, you can make some for the class.
4. Make up a quiz or game which will be a prize in or on your box. Make sure that you can share the game with the class and that all can see and participate. Once again this must relate to the book or the short story. At this time you might want to work with plot and episodes.
5. Write a business letter to a company that you want to manufacture your cereal persuading them to do so based on your product and aspects of the novel or short story.
6. Design a magazine ad for your cereal. Relate this to the novel or the short story and explain this relationship to the class. Remember magazine ads are used to sell products.
Although this project has many facets, you can do it effectively if you will work on it a little each day. Your grades will be determined by the care, neatness, and creativity of your work; your ability to relate all choices to the novel or short story; and the quality of your oral presentation.
