Her father, Samsundar Pandit, caused it all.
It was he who first came up with the idea sometime in early 1941.
Frankly, in retrospect, there was no escape.
On June 8, 1941 Basmath was tied and sent to her wedded home.
Yes, she was married to me ... Harry S. Sharma ... under Sanatan Dharma rites. It was an overnight wedding and believe it or not .... the first time I did see her face, was on our wedding night ... June 8, 1941 ... whilst placing sandoor on the center path on her head. We were covered witha thin veil.
Another thing ... the last time I saw her face, was some 57 years later. That was when I wiped the sandoor from her head. It was Sunday, September 13, 1998.

First Year>
Many a tear we cried
On that night you slipped away.
Your Bhagavan Ram was waiting
You had come to say good-bye.
Into His arms you floated
As He held you to His heart,
And smilingly He whispered,
"To me, you come at last."
That we’ll love you ever is certain,
And we miss you every day.
But our Rama knew you loved Him
And with Him now you’ll stay.
Like Shabari His feet you clasped
And drowned in love you worshipped.
Read His Word, and Sang his Praise
From morn to night unending.
Rama, your devotion blessed…
"Very dear to me," He said.
And Ma, our Shabari,
He took you to your rest.
We love you, Ma.
In loving memory of
a Blessed Mother and Wife
– Basmath Sharma –
who went to
her Lord Rama on
September 11th 1998.
