The Spiritual Path - The Ageless Wisdom

Even those who deny any religious affiliation may, if they have lived any length of time in a society with a Christian tradition, have come across the Beatitudes as told by Jesus in his Sermon on the Mount - may perhaps have reflected on the beauty and mystery of the words and have wondered what meaning lay hidden in the passage and what relevance it could have to life then or now.

In fact the truths in this passage and in many other extracts from religious works both Eastern and Western are examples of an Ageless Wisdom whose origins can be traced to Himalayan roots far back in time. One aspect of the path to Transition is the gradual revelation of this Wisdom, which like any other wisdom cannot be found in books or by studying however diligently. Nor is it something to be attained like a diploma by zealous practice in competition with others. It will elude those who seek it in an egoic manner to add to their trophies, but will reveal itself to the poor in spirit, the mourners, the meek, those seeking righteousness, the merciful, the pure in heart, the peacemakers, the persecuted, and all those who opt for a lonely road in obedience to an inner drive to seek out celestial harmony.

You do not have to have a specific religious affiliation to follow a spiritual path - you may even deny that for you the word "spiritual" has any meaning. Maybe you are already pursuing a chosen path without having given it the name "spiritual" and begin to notice occurrences on the way which do not fit so well into the rationalistic world of logic and natural science. The essence of the Ageless Wisdom is a reality which transcends the observed everyday reality and makes itself known by intuitions, revelations and synchronicities (coincidences with a favourable outcome which cannot be explained in purely rational terms).

Pure in heart and poor in spirit, these are the essential qualities of those who perceive the Ageless Wisdom - they have made, or are in the process oof making, life style decisions which show respect for the integrity of their physical bodies as temples of Spirit, respect for the integrity of other humans, and respect for the integrity of all sentient beings as different but equally worthy of respect. Acting on these decisions they go about their lives quietly without beating their chests to declare how spiritual they are, and leave a trail of order, harmony, peace, love and understanding. Their choice of ethical goals ensures that the mysterious forces of the Universe are there to support them in their progress towards these goals and protect them against calamities and against burdens greater than they could bear. As they continue in this progress, it will become clear to them how it might be possible those further advanced on this road could have performed miracles, healed the sick and prophecied the future; these gifts are all conceivable in the context of this higher reality, but are only for use in acute situations where no other possibility would be suitable - certainly not as party tricks or to impress others.
