I have always felt the "Our Father" prayer was pathetic even as a mythic expression let alone something someone would say now. Here is what I would change about it and offer what I recite daily.First, "Our Father"... has got to go for obvious reasons. "Who art in Heaven"... is too remote... no immanence there. "Hallowed be thy name"... forget naming it... "The Tao that can be named is not the Eternal Tao" etc. "Thy kingdom come, thy will be done"... has also got to go. Too future oriented. The kingdom is NOW. "On Earth as it is in Heaven"...far too dualistic for me. I have been trying to bridge that gap for 40 years. "Give us this day"... etc. too much groveling for crumbs. All the "Trespass" stuff can be left out also...too much emphasis on past mistakes. Its like a cat licking its wounds. They never heal. "Lead us not into Temptation"...wow, is that a sick one. Its through testing we grow. "But deliver us from evil"... Without evil, how will we know the good? So what does that leave us with? AMEN (that I can live with) Here is what I say daily... To the Always Already... You are unnameable while I am nameable. You are indefinable while I am definable. You are immeasurable while I am measurable. You are indescribable yet I become your description. You are inexpressible yet I become your expression. You are unimaginable yet I become your image. You are formless yet I become your form. Only when you and I work together can the magnificence of the universe be displayed. Amen
