Simple Life - Seen as a virtuous goal on the path to Transition. The Piers view includes among other things recommendations to avoid secret assignments and events requiring special clothing.
Soap - A form of entertainment in which attractive and socially desirable characters are seen behaving in completely unethical ways, therefore sending out signals of dubious value to the community.
Spiritual progress - Another term for the path to Transition. Real progress is impossible without some sort of self-denial, which explains the story about the camel and the eye of the needle. See also Journey.
Supporters - Piers' name for those individuals who, even though he may not know them well personally, are intuitively recognized as being supportive of his life aims. A day which includes a greeting by one of these supporters is immediately enriched. See also messengers, teachers.
Synchronicity - A coincidence with a favourable outcome which cannot be explained in rational terms, often a source of esoteric knowledge. See also intuition and revelation.
Teachers - Some look for teachers among the ancient and modern philosophers and other gurus. Piers' teachers are mostly young children, the elderly and the intellectually or socially challenged - anyone whose innocent vision of reality is unencumbered by the need to express a particular point of view, defend a particular interest, project a particular image, play a particular part. See also messengers, supporters.
Transition - The crossing of the abyss between normal or extended consciousness and full consciousness.
Truth - The pursuit of truth, together with that of spiritual freedom, are two objectives which are closely associated on our path to Transition. By checking that our beliefs are really based on truth, as far as we can understand it, and not on some form of prejudice or indoctrination, we can be sure that the structure of our ideals and values is built on firm ground.
TVS - A person (e.g. doctor) to whom the corner of the veil (Dutch: Tip Van de Sluier) can be lifted to reveal some, but not all, of the specific concerns of the individual arising from his or her journey to Transition.
Universe - A popular form of arrogance is the firm belief we are somewhere near the limits of our knowledge about how the Universe fits together. It seems in fact more than possible that the Universe has nowhere near divulged all its secrets, that its components are interrelated in a way totally beyond our perception, that it possesses a "drive" to pursue "goals" eg. celestial harmony.
Vegetarianism - The avoidance of eating the remains of sentient beings. For those to whom it personally appeals it is an obvious choice, others can be quite aggressive in defending their right to eat meat. Most important thing to be said is that it doesn't damage your health (provided you are sensible about choice of diet, but this is so anyway).
Work - An activity necessary at least for one's own well-being if one is not to turn into a mass of egoic jelly. There are three important characteristics distinguishing "work" from other activities eg. hobbies:
