Resolutions 1999

Piers Clement

This is traditionally the time of year for making resolutions, so here's my set (for myself only), from the trivial to the presumptuously earth-shaking, all with at least a 1% chance of succeeding!

  1. Avoid all reference to escapades of world leaders, potency preparations, possible worst case millennium scenarios and other topics which have been pursued excessively in 1998
  2. Be careful with words like "spiritual", "cosmic" and "new age" which may mean different things to different people in different contexts
  3. Avoid capitalizing words like Truth and Spirit, to imply that they should be read with a special significance
  4. Avoid putting words like "reality" in quotes, to give the impression that the meaning intended is that used by ordinary folk and different from what is meant by us insiders (wink)
  5. Do more work on my site instead of wasting time watching detective series and stupid (or even intelligent) TV quizzes
  6. Try to get around and about, and especially not miss local events that have some spiritual significance (missed two in 1998, the Frederik van Eeden centenary exhibition and the Escher ditto, both less than 10 miles from here)
  7. Attempt to integrate various parts of my life which seem largely to contradict each other, especially the world of computers and internet with the world outside it
  8. Attempt to integrate various aspects of my personal path which seem largely to contradict each other, especially the pursuit of self realization, levels of consciousness etc with the pursuit of the esoteric
  9. Attempt to determine in any given personal situation the most enlightened course of action for all those involved, and then *pursue it*!!!
  10. Attempt not only to seek Light (oops, sorry! light) for myself but also to spread light and eliminate darkness - remember the boddhisatva's vow not to rest until every sentient being has attained enlightenment!
I think this idea of spreading light is particularly important - our own corner of the net tends to be an enclave of like mindedness where we bathe in each other's light, and whilst it's fine to have this (it was terribly dark without it) we should also be getting out there and shining our light in the world at large! otherwise things will never get better!
