Magic Knights Rayearth

Cefiro is a magical world which materializes from the will power of its inhabitants. When Princess Emeraude prays for Cefiro to be a place of peace and tranquility, it is her will power which transforms Cefiro into a serene paradise. But when she is taken away and held captive, the inhabitants of Cefiro become worried and afraid. It is this fear which creates and unleashes Evil Forces upon this once idyllic Garden of Eden. In Cefiro, Guru Clef waits for the three girls, Hikaru, Umi and Fuu. On arrival, he tells them why they have been summoned to Cefiro, and they can not return to their home world until their mission is completed.

Their mission as the Legendary Magic Knights is to awaken the Machine Gods and restore Cefiro to its former glory. Guru Clef gives each of the girls special magical powers. But before he can explain how to use these powers, they are attacked by Zagato's high priestess, Alcione. Before sending them off on their mission, Guru Clef tells them that only by using their inner strength will be able to protect themselves against the forces of evil that threaten Cefiro. Uncertain and worried as to what lies ahead, the three girls boldly carry on with their mission.

Each episode shows the girls growing up as they meet and overcome each new challege. With each victory, their armour and magical powers gain strength, preparing them to fight the greatest enemy of all, Zagato. When Princess Emeraude realizes her love for Zagato, she also realises that she can no longer maintain order in Cefiro. This grim revelation means that she must call upon the Magic Knights to eventually destroy her and extinguish her uncontrollable feelings for Zagato. Zagato, who is deeply in love with Princess Emeraude, can not bear to let her die, so he imprisons her where she will be safe. However, their hidden love for each other can not co-exist within Cefiro if the world is to remain a place of harmony it has always been.

Character Profiles

Hikaru Shidou. A good example of a pure, honest, and simple girl. Although she is vertically challenged, she can jump very well. She is good at attacks using a sword because she has been learning kendo since she was a small child. She learns Fire magic.

The shortest of the three Magic Knights. She has red hair which she puts back in a long pony tail and red eyes. Her school uniform consists of a black skirt, a red jacket, a big white bow in front, red socks and black shoes. Energetic and almost always happy. Of the three of them, she gets along best with Mokona. Naive, she is often mistaken for a younger girl.

Umi Ryuuzaki. Not afraid of things and speaks her mind clearly, so she might be seen as a selfish person. However, she cares deeply about her friends. She uses rapiers well because she fences. She learns Water magic.

The tallest of the three Magic Knights (by a little). Umi has long light blue hair and blue eyes. Her school uniform consists of a blue skirt over black tights (which she thankfully loses when she gets her armor) and a blue jacket with an orange tie. She also has blue boots. She's short-tempered and she over reacts to anything strange or unpleasent. She has trouble dealing with strange things. She constantly fights with Mokona (as much as you can fight with someone who has a one word vocabulary). Somewhat clueless when it comes to men.

Fuu Hououji. Always smiling but is actually quite a strategist. Her comments are often right to the point. Her being in the archery club at school allows her to use the bow and arrow. She learns Wind magic.

Fuu has shoulder length, light brown hair, green eyes, and wears glasses. Her school uniform is green skirt, green jacket, small red tie and brown shoes. She has an occasionaly morbid sense of humor. All this with a large grin. She has a tendency to state the obvious and she addresses everyone with unfailing politeness, including her enemies and even Mokona ("Mokona-san"). She has a very smart and logical mind. She has a kind nature and almost never gets mad.
