MARCH SNOW

bleak sky
of grey
without horizon
reaches forever
always grey

pure white
snow flakes
fall softly
tickling
my nose

billowing
smokey breath
pours
from open mouths
exhaling warmth
upon the cold outdoors

winter winds
whisper
and whistle
around
corners

the chill
of the wind
whips
through clothing
causing
a shiver

glistening
icicles
hang
from the eaves
waiting
to reflect
a rainbow
of light
bringing
their destruction

naked branches
appearing dead
reach up
seeking life
from the hidden sun

the appearance
of death
but
with a
hidden promise
of new life
