Outline to the Book of Revelation

Introduction: How these notes came about

The following outline is the fruit of about one year of work. It is rather massive, comprising about 14 pages the last time I printed it, and contains my personal notes about the Book of Revelation. These notes are humbly submitted for your perusal; please be kind, even if you do not hold to my particular interpretation of the Scriptures.

I feel it necessary to tell you why I began this study of one of the most challenging books of the Bible. It began when a co-worker of mine, Mrs. Laney, drew me aside and asked me two simple questions. The first was what do you believe about the 'end times'. I quickly responded 'I believe in the pre-tribulational/pre-millenial view.' Then she asked: why? After thinking about it, the only response I could give was 'because that was what I was told.' She shared with me a different point of view (I didn't know there was a different point of view to be had! )and challenged me to study the book of Revelation for myself. During my study, I changed my view several times, but eventually adopted a modified version of the pre-millenial/pre-tribulational view of the end times.

To start, I had to allow myself to take the Bible at face value, not assume that what my teachers told me was correct, and pray for understanding. Second, I had to familiarize myself with the Book of Revelation. To be honest, the first few times I read the Book of Revelation, it made little, if any, sense to me at all. Third, I looked at the Old Testament prophets that appeared to be relevant to an end times study (that is, those prophetic books where the words " latter days" , " end times" or " time of Jacob's trouble" occurred). Fourth, I reviewed the Olivet Discourse of Jesus in the Gospel according to Matthew. With this reading under my belt, I ventured into the most rewarding study of the Bible in my entire life. I hope this blesses you as you review it.

                a. rides black horse, holding a pair of balances
                b. voice in the midst of four living creatures
instructs "a measure of wheat for a penny,
three measures of barley for a penny; do not
harm the oil or the wine"
iv. fourth seal - death and hell
               # Rev 6:7,8
               a. rides pale horse

                  (2) to kill with hunger
                  (3) to kill with death
                  (4) to kill with the beasts of the earth
           v. fifth seal - martyrs' cry comes before the Lord
              # Rev 6:9-11
              a. under the altar were the souls of them that
were slain for the word of God and for the
                 testimony they held
[NOTE: take note that the LOCATION of the
martyrs is UNDER THE ALTAR. This corresponds
to the location of the fire and coals that
consume the sacrifice. I compare this section
to the section "The Two Harvests" later where
the angel who has the power over fire calls
from the altar to harvest the 'clusters of the
vine of the earth' which are then cast into the
winepress of the wrath of God.]
              b. they cry "how long, O Lord, holy and true, dost
thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that
                 dwell on the earth?"
              c. white robes are given to them and they are
instructed to wait a while until their fellow
servants and bretheren are killed as they were
           vi. sixth seal
[NOTE: Herein is my peculiar view of the seals. I
believe that the events of Chapter 7 are related
to the sixth seal. The events as described in
Joel are those which are ".. before the coming of
the great and the terrible day of the LORD .."
are the events listed in section "a" below.
Close on this event is the sealing of the elect
Israelites concurrently with the rapture of the
                church.]
               a. The events on earth - "day of the Lord" a la

                  (1) earthquake
                  (2) sun became black as sackcloth
                  (3) moon became as blood
                  (4) stars fell to the earth
                  (5) heaven departed as a scroll
                  (6) mountains and islands are moved from their

protect them from the wrath of the Lamb

     V. The things which shall be hereafter - The Trumpets

               b. takes fire from the altar and casts the censer
                  to the earth
[NOTE: if, in fact, the location of the martyrs
from the fifth seal is significant, then this
section would imply that their prayers were
heard and the judgement has begun. The
question is: does this section FOLLOW the
seventh seal or does it occur between the
fifth and seventh? (I leave the possibility
that the judgements all occur during the
                   period of the sixth seal.)]
                  (1) there were voices
                  (2) thunderings

               all sea creatures and ships
               # Rev 8:8,9
           v. third trumpet - great burning star from heaven
makes 1/3 of rivers and fountains of water "bitter"
              and many men die
              # Rev 8:10,11
vi. fourth trumpet - 1/3 of sun, moon and stars are
struck so that there is no light for a 1/3 of the

[NOTE: keeping Romans 13:1 in mind, that 'the
powers that be are ordained of God', this
passage means that the dragon gave the beast
all of the power at his disposal -- for God
has a purpose that even this ruler be
                   established.]
              j. one head appeared as if wounded unto death

                  to overcome them
                  # Rev 13:7a
[NOTE: if these truly are 'saints' then the
word 'overcome' must mean 'persecute unto
death', not 'conquer and utterly destroy' --
or else God's testimony in Revelation 20,
that the 'saints' would rule and reign with
                    him, would be a lie.]

                   tormented."
[NOTE: this testimony must occur PRIOR TO or
                    SIMULTANEOUSLY WITH the second beast's
mandate to take the mark or die or this would
not be the warning that it appears to be --
and warning sinners of impending eternal

[NOTE: probable reference to the rapture as this
harvest is distinguished from the harvesting of
the 'vine of the earth'. This is probably the
                  best evidence of a pre-trib or mid-trib
