Life isn't what it always seems to be
It's just like a winding staircase
When you are born
The wood is fresh
And beginning to wind up
And when you die
The staircase is wound up all the way
You can look back down on it
The wood is chipped
and rotted
The nails are rusted
But then
Some pieces of wood are also
healthy, shiny, and smooth
Some nails
are still perfectly resting in the wood
like the way they were
When they were first placed in the wood
to begin the winding staircase
Each step
is a day of your life
some steps
are
soft and comforting
The wood craddles your foot
and some
are
Hard and rotting
Once in awhile
You'll step on a misplaced nail
it will dig into your foot
But just when you think
the nail won't ever come out
The next step is
easy and soft
and it removes the nail
But you'll always
have the scar
of that one step you took
Always take that one step
no matter
how hard it looks
Because the scar
will eventually
teach you
And just remember
after every rusting nail
there is always another step
to look forward to
