When you look in the mirror,
The face that stares back at you,
Do you ever wonder who that is?
Is it just an image or more?
The two figures you learn to live with,
One to deal with the harsh reality,
Another to act as a public relations person.
You're not sure why that second image develops.
You know it's not quite yourself,
But not a complete stranger,
It's a mask you put on to engage in society.
It's a defense from the truth.
You convince yourself that the other side of you is necessary.
At least you're doing society a good deed.
Do you ever mistake allusion for reality?
In this world of lies and pretensions,
Is avoidance the answer to problems in life?
You say music is escape.
A great temporary diversion it is,
But how long will it last?
You try to numb your mind through sleep,
Hoping to rid of obstacles in the subconscious state,
Never wanting to wake up and face life again.
In this world,
You are indeed alone.
Does your other half function as a constant companion?
