The Wish of Joy

by Diane Long (14)

A tale of good and evil
Is today's Treasury Bill
It happened many centuries ago
The story that not many people know.

An angel fell from the sky
The birth of joy in you and I
She sang with tears
Of the sadness in all her years.

"Pleasure will leave"
"Death will overachieve"
The words sprang deep
like a twilight sleep.

Love, peace, and harmony
Leave unwillfully
Death's pale displeasure
has become the new found treasure.

The angel left in sadness
The world is in distress.
How will they fight
against the evil night?

The tale continues of sadness yet
when destiny is kismet
Hope is gone
and nothing is here to depend on

Suddenly comes
a man screaming "fe fi fo fum".
Standing on a slant
speaking a Gregorian chant.

"Let's think of love"
"And think of the over and above"
"Let's scream of happiness"
"And see nothing less."

He screamed on and on,
To everyone he was hither and yon.
Some called him the start of the show
And others called him the next Ivanhoe.

"Let's stand and fight
with all delight. and cannot be overthrown."

Destiny then helped them
And told them the lesson gem
"If you believe will all your might,
Your wish will always be bright."
