Mirabel Anne

by Rebecca Graff (16)

Mirabel Anne sat at the table;
Mirabel Anne looked in the mirror.
Mirabel Anne saw the monsters there,
the ones that looked like her.
Mirabel Anne told them to leave,
but they wouldn't.
Mirabel Anne wanted to leave,
but she couldn't.
So Mirabel Anne stared at the mirror again,
the picture the same,
but each time, she liked it less.
Mirabel Anne felt guilty
every time she felt good.
Mirabel Anne loved her family -
"She's such a pretty girl", they said,
and each time she liked it less.
"Our Mirabel is perfect", they said,
and each time she liked it less.
So Mirabel Anne stuck her finger down her throat,
because it made her feel in control.
And each time she liked it more.
