Lost Cause

by Robert Dally (17)

with a savage intensity
and a fire in his eyes
he was tired of their bullshit
so tired of their lies
he took his life without thinking twice
because he thought no one was there
in this the age of apathy
it seems no one cares
and i heard the counselors say
"it doesn't matter anyway
he was just another lost cause"
just another lost cause
i saw the starving face
of another youth on the street
things at home weren't working out
she couldn't take the heat
sleeping outside among pedophiles
she died painfully in the cold
she never heard i love you
she was barely fifteen years old
and i heard the police man say
"it doesn't matter anyway
she was just another lost cause"
just another lost cause
he knew only pain in his broken world
until he found a friend in glass
he forgot all about his broken heart
when it was beating way too fast
as he finished up his "final line"
he fell unconscious to the ground
alone in life, alone in death
he died without a sound
and i heard the coroner say
"it doesn't matter anyway
he was just another lost cause"
just another lost cause
another jaded teen took an innocent life
in a desperate attempt to escape his Hell
because of his stupidity
he'll spend his life inside a cell
and i heard the jury say
"it doesn't matter anyway
he was just another lost cause"
just another lost cause
no wife or kids or picket fence
his future will never be
with millions more in the crossfire
when will we see?
just another lost cause
will we ever see?
