For Meghan

by Holden Caulfield (17)

staring into your eyes;
calm --
the way it is before
a storm.
starless entity
of night's void
where echoes
of my calls
can be seen endless
in resonance of
primordial thought,
preontological.

footing giving way
to foundation crumbling
beneath me --
the way sand
washes up
beneath your feet.
looking into a deep blue
solitude.
with burden of knowing
the promised land
lies only beyond
the horizon
where the Sun rises
so out of reach.

wanting to be carried
away --
the way driftwood floats
across sinusiodal waves.
lured further into
the orgastic future
of a green light;
being drawn into
the lodestone rock
like calls of Sirens
masking sailors
lost at sea.

waves crashing against me --
the way gilded angel's wings
are broken
at the cost of a covenant.
forfeiting
streets of gold divinity
for the caress
of your human voice.
wanting to speak
in the tongues
of men and of angels,
wanting to lean foward
and fall backwards
in surrender to the current.

clinging to hope --
the way a sailor clings
to the ship's wreckage.
drifting foward into
the untouchable horizon
of milk and honey.
i will believe in the Sun,
though she is late in rising.
i will wait
as long as it takes
to create your world
for you to call my name
on the day of rest.

Your eyes;
calm --
the way it is before a storm.
the way
the earth was formless,
empty.
the way darkness was over
the surface of the deep,
and the Spirit of God
was hovering over the waters.
