Candle in the Rain

by Aly Biederman (15)

Some people think they can control you,
By telling you how to live your life,
There's not much you can do;
When people cause you so much strife.

There is a great many of things,
That I should have been,
For I have powerful wings;
And this race, I could win.

But I can't change to please anyone,
Although I like to try sometimes.
Then I realize I'm the only one,
And it's a wretched crime.

It's a funny sort of compromise;
One person can't do all the changing,
Because a part of them will die,
Through the course of re-arranging.

I'm tired of always giving,
And dying in the pain;
Maybe my life is living
Like a candle in the rain.
