ABBEY NULLIUS |

OF ST. MAURICE |
LISTING OF
TRADITIONAL MASSES WHICH HAVE BEEN APPROVED BY LEGITIMATE AUTHORITY.
-- CONFEDERATION
OF SWITZERLAND
--
(HELVETIA/SCHWEIZ/SUISSE/SVIZZERA/SVIZZRA)
The Confederation of Switzerland is
divided into six dioceses and two territorial abbacies (abbacies nullius) which, however,
do not form and are not part of any ecclesiastical province, each being directly subject
to the Holy See. The Diocese of Chur also included the whole of the Principality of
Liechtenstein (q.v.) until 1999, when the Principality was made
coterminous with a new Archdiocese of Vaduz.
It is of especial note that the
territorial Abbey of St. Maurice may be the oldest continuous monastery in the
world. It was
founded early in the fourth century and has been occupied by religious ever since.
