HISTORY

The National Shrine of The Divine

Mercy, on Eden Hill in Stockbridge,

Massachusetts, U.S.A., became a reality at the

insistence of many of the first Marian

Helpers who wanted it built as a votive gift

of giving for graces they received.

The richly appointed interior, additionally

embellished by appropriate decorations

for special holy days and events, is

noted for its wood-carvings, including a

reredos with statues of the twelve apostles,

and a niche with a statue of the

Immaculate Conception sculptured in Carrara marble. The altars and

sanctuary floor are made of Vermont marble. The Stations of the

Cross were imported from Spain. The stained glass, designed by a

local artisan, depicts Gospel scenes that speak of God's mercy.

The shrine is especially dear to the Marian priests and brothers

who personally had a hand in its construction. Here, before the

enshrined Divine Mercy image, their Holy Masses and prayers are

offered for the intentions of the recipients and donors of this card.

The use of Spiritual Prayer Cards signify a gift with which the donor spiritually and materially supports Marian candidates to the priesthood and religious life, as well as the variety of apostolates in education, the printed word, and missions which Marian priests and brothers exercise on every continent, proclaiming God's unbounded mercy and encouraging a lively devotion to Mary, their Immaculate Patroness.
