More Math!
The effort to convince John Brawley that the number zero exists continues!
Cruise into MathMaster's Cyberspace Math....and Christianity. Maybe our math maniacs will go argue with him instead of with Brawley! I won't speak about his math skills, but he has Atheism listed as a 'cult'.
The Infinite. I'm not sure, but somehow I think John Brawley would like this bit of prose.
Late Term Abortions
The subject of late term abortions, particularly those which are performed as intact, via the D&X method is quickly brewing into a major topic of contention. Here are some resources from both sides of this volitile issue:
Late Term Abortion FAQ by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists of New York.
Partial-Birth Abortion Ban -Veto Override How did Congress vote?
Catholic.net Discussion Forum The subject is being debated in a number of arenas besides Holysmoke....here is one.
NARAL Issues - Abortion Rights, Late-term Abortion Ban a list of articles on the subject.
Stories from Women and Their Families women speak out about their experiences with a D&X.
Issue Report: Late Term Abortions

The Clements Family Homepage I just have to give these folks some special attention...they seem to be against everything. Except pigs.

From Rod Swift:
'And, of course, we all know that for Jim's Birthday, we should send presents to the dearly *ahem* female "Wilbur" something ordered from the Northbound catalog at Northbound Leather, Ltd.. :)'
Also from Rod, to David Ragland:
'DR> You yourself could do with some learning. You could learn well from biblical tenets even if you remained devoid of belief in any God.
RS>You could do from viewing and holding some of the philosophies of some of the freethought/humanist/atheistic organisations. Here's a start on your merry way:
Internet Infidels Secular Web
New Humanists on the Internet
American Atheists
One does not need a deity-construct to live.'
From Judith Bandsma:
OneLook Dictionaries, the Faster Finder
From David Worrell and Steve Quarella:
DW> I received my first order from Amazon.com Books today.
SQ> This place is of the Devil. I've spent way too much there already, and even David Rice was kind enough to give me a present from there (a book on Science versus "Creation Science."). It's EVIL, I tell you, EVIL!
Don't forget Powell's Bookstore
From Jan deBoer:
Has anyone else checked out the Website that alleges the New Testament was written by the roman Pisio family?.........they make a good case! The Roman Pisio Homepage: Unlocking the Bible.
From Becke Boyer and Marilyn Burge:
MB> What's the URL? I'd like to see what that busybody has gotten himself into this time.
BB>Nova Notes: Al Shroeder's Journal

Overheard in Fido this Month
Already delete the packet that had that really cool URL? Here are the sites Holysmokers have been talking about this month:
The Onion Satiric ezine, mentioned by Rod Swift.
Beware of Magic: The Gathering an anti-RPG diatribe, posted by Sue Armstrong.
The Official Contest of the Gods My god is bigger than your god, so there!
American Libertarians posted by Dave Worrell, making a case against libertarianism.
Pretty Good Privacy posted by David Worrell.
Christian Gallery David Rice described this as "Christian Porn on the Net"....I wasn't sure what I'd find here, but he's RIGHT. You have to see it to believe it, and don't forget to read the defense of why the site owner doesn't feel he should protect children from viewing this on a Christian website.
A Weighty Flame War
Flame-broiled Sacred Cows are the meal of choice in Holysmoke, and Twinkies make a great chaser. It's always interesting to see someone who understands that suddenly go ballistic when their own cow is put on the Holysmoke grill. This began with an irreverent observation that less Twinkies would reduce weight. No, the comment wasn't "nice". Neither, however, was repeating it to a minor and then throwing said minor into the fray without preparation.
On Twinkies
Planet Twinkie For those who are unashamed of their Twinkie-eating ways. Includes some truly discusting recipes for pigging out with Hostess cakes of all kinds - - my kids would love them.
The T.W.I.N.K.I.E.S. Project: Tests With Inorganic Kakes In Extreme Situations Probably both healthier AND more fun things to do with Twinkies.
So what is 'overweight'?
Are You Overweight? A little test to take.
Desirable Weight Table from the American Heart Association
Dietary Guidelines for Americans
Why Lose Weight? - Reasons and Resources
The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition Morbidity and mortality associated with elevated body weight in children. Addresses some of the dangers associated with being pushy about children dieting, as well as the hazards of childhood obesity.
CyberDiet A sensible and rational guide to good nutritional habits and fitness.
Magic of Believing A support group for those dealing with overweight issues, and those trying to lose weight.
Body Image - WHY do other people's opinions matter, anyway?
Body Image How a person perceives their body - what it looks like to them and what it looks like to others.
Body Image and Eating Disorders
Whaleriders Unabashedly lusting after fat men
The Fabulous World of FAT!SO? For people who don't apologize about their size.
Rump Parliment A journal of fat activism.
And one for those who just don't care and find the whole argument absurd:
Letterman's Top 10 List: Signs You're an Overweight Cop Now, as far as I know, the closest thing we have to a cop in Holysmoke is Mimi the Politeness Monitor...
An Argument Over Nothing
I hate math....and mathematical arguments are BORING.
The seemingly endless battle over Zero is proof that Holysmokers really will argue about anything....or nothing.
The Zero Homepage Now THAT is the definitive evidence that the web has too much that lacks substance.
Ask Dr. Math: What is the actual purpose of the number zero?
Ask Dr. Math: Is Zero a number?
Schoolhouse Rock: My Hero, Zero No, this doesn't help solve the argument at all, but it gives the rest of us something to hum while we wait for it to wind down.
Dan Barker's "Losing Faith In Faith"
This account of a preacher's journey from faith to atheism was the topic of a brief conversation in FIDO recently. It presents many of the difficulties and experiences shared by Holysmoker's who have "come out" to Christian friends and family about their loss of faith.
Excerpts from: Losing Faith in Faith: From Preacher to Atheist by Dan Barker
Evangelistic Atheism: Leading Believers Astray by Dan Barker
Freedom From Religion Foundation founded by Dan Barker, this organization provides a large assortment of atheist resources.
Good Works: Secular vs. Religious "Altruism"
Or: "Atheists for the most part do no good things" according to Holysmoker Jesse Jones

Life is to be Lived Now: A Vital, Personal Humanism by Frederick Edwords
The Profits of Religion by Upton Sinclair
Online Relationships
The last few months have seen online couples break up, make up, and marry. This is likely to be an increasingly common topic, not just in Holysmoke, but in the online community at large as computers continue to play a wider role in how we all interact with one another. It's too early to have any definitive answers for the phenomenon, but the following links provide a variety of views, warnings and advice.
A Fated Romance One couple's success story
CyberLove advice, articles, and more on the topic of online romance.
Web Voices: An Unpretentious On-Line Affair Interactive Discussion Forums on relationships, online and off.
Cyber Romance 101 An Introduction to Relationships Forged on the Net
Lust in Space This web site is designed for those intrigued, fascinated, lured, and otherwise "hooked" on the interdimensional relationships that evolve on this new horizon of cyberspace.
The Scarlet Netter "The Scarlet Netter began as an Email exchange between friends and lovers. Our frank discussions, logfiles, letters, and erotic fiction about On-Line Love Affairs and Internet Adultery ... began to take on a life of its own."
