On the stressful and "distressing" front page regarding the St. Xavier parents who protested the talk given by Marian Weage of Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (P-FLAG), would someone please explain to me how they can possibly call themselves Christians ["Lesson on gays protested," April 8]?
I don’t pretend to be religious, but I spent 12 years in Catholic schools, and the Christ I learned about would never agree with their lack of compassion and understanding, and the arrogant, intolerant and insensitive stand they have taken. Isn’t it ironic that by doing so, they have proven the need for and the worthiness of such a class and speaker?

I applaud St. Xavier’s principal and president and the courage they display by continuing to invite Mrs. Weage. One can only hope that the sons of those involved in the protest will somehow look to those two men and their fellow St. X students who seem to truly understand that PFLAG’s message of love and acceptance was first Christ’s message.
