Competitions
There are certain activities sponsored through either the school, the school system, the educational region, and the state in which we encourage the students to become involved. At the school level, we have a Spelling Bee, science fair projects, art contests, and various "fitness" activities in which the children can  "compete" to win . At the system level, there are speech contests, soil/water poster contests, science fair competitions, drug free essays, and other contest related to curriculum areas that may come up during the year . Region and state contests are usually an extension of the system-wide competitions such as speech, soil/water and drug free essay.
We encourage children to "compete" in those areas in which they have an interest. We want them to learn to be a "winner" and to deal with not being a winner, as the case may be. It is important that you help us from the home perspective if you know your child is competing, so that they can feel "secure" regardless of the outcome.
Competing with one’s self academically is most important and we have opportunities for that to happen within the classroom and in activities such as "Perfect Attendance", "Book It", and fitness "clubs".  Teaching your child to deal with "failure" can sometimes be more valuable than always being a "winner". We try to keep competitions age-appropriate and as positive as possible.
