Dear Friends and Family, This one cant be too long, as I have only a few minutes, but a quick rundown on things since Douz... I stayed in Douz for the famous festival there. It was quite exciting actually, with all kinds of dancers from the deserts of northern Africa, camel racing, a show or desert life in the past, and acrobatics on the backs of galloping horses. Quite a lot of fun. I won't forget my friends in Douz I met Phil and Ginny, an American/Canadian couple who have been travelling for quite some time. They had a car, and invited me along with them for a trip to the desert nothing town of Rjim Maatoug. After the festival we went north to Karouan, the fourth holiest city of Islam, and found a fun Souk, thousands of carpets, and a very friendly innkeeper in the heart of the medina (old town). We proceeded north to the mountain or Zaghouan with its temple of the water nymphs where the Carthage aqueduct began, and then spent the night in Sousse, further south. The next day was a fairly straight shot to Tunis, although we meandered along gorgeous backroads back through Zaghouan on our way. We arrived in Sidi Bou Said, a suburb or Tunis nearly on top of ancient Carthage just before sunset and I ended up sleeping on a roof! No time to explain now... but I saw an ancient graveyard, had a scrub in a hammam, a boat ride with a south african, another sleep on the beach in Messina, and two very long train rides (with an interesting character!) to the port of Brindisi, on the heel of the Italian boot. Tomorrow I leave for Igoumenitsa (?) Greece... Keep me in your thoughts and prayers, -Dustin
