Philosophy - IC Coven of Laiad

By Lyllith of the IC Coven of Laiad

As a daughter of the Dark Goddesses, I hold Satanism to be the exploration of the essence of what it is to be human. Within the structured walls of our Sanctum I have found that in this world where it is "evil" to allow the indulgence of basic human instincts, in the arms of the Dark Ones my basic nature is allowed and encouraged to thrive.

It has taken time for me to overcome the constant bombardment of those in the mundane world and their incessant pressure to be their idea of "good". We are taught to believe from childhood to deny our natural instincts for those things in life that are basic, id est.: indulgence in food, carnal pleasures, and vengeance to name a few. Within the realm of the teachings of the Infernal Lords and Ladies I have found a freedom that allows me to overcome these pressures that would never have allowed for me to be myself.

Before I discovered Satanism I found myself immersed in a never-ending battle against the guilt that overcame me simply for being human and having basic human wants. I became fed up with feeling bad for feeling good, so to speak. I used to think with fear upon the idea of Satanism because of the stereotypes that exist. I have realized that the only "evil" in Satanism is the evil created by those who foster an all encompassing religion that serves to suppress and chastise its members by forcing ideas of "perfection" that are in direct contrast with basic human traits.

I have been a Satanist for nearly 2 1/2 years. My growth has been steady, my awakenings consistent. I have found a peace within the acceptance of myself. There are no confines here. I live amongst basic laws of humanity. They are livable laws, contrary to past experiences. I harm no innocent, I "favor the just and curse the rotten". I feel no guilt when I find no pity for those who will not help themselves, but I will go to the ends of the earth to help those who can prove themselves. This is my perspective on Satanism. I hope that I have offered something for contemplation.

Without Darkness, one cannot see Light.
