The Week of Peace,



In the week of peace in Umuofia, People call on their neighbors and drank palm-win. IN the week of peace no one may commided any crime. If any one commided a crime would get punished by making more sacrifieces to the earth goddest. OKonkwo had cmmited aa crime in the week of peace by beating his wife because she went to get her hair done, she did not cook for him that day. During that day every one got mad at Okonkwo because of the earth goddest if she gets mad then no ones harvest would be good. This week is a custem because they use to celibrate it every year before they harvest for the yams. In that week their custems were if some one commited a crime they would get punished by draging that person all around the twon until that person would die. This custem was to pleas the Earth goddest, that way they will have good harvest.



Twins are Thrown in The Ebil Forest



The twins were trown away in the evil forst, as if they are evil and they would do something bad. In this custom there wass no more twins around so they would not have any evil child. In the clans they had evil forsts they threw the twins away in it. That was to pleas the earth goddest and to make sure that she did not get mad at them. when twins are born they would be thrwon away there and they would not have any one to go look after them.



The New Yam Festival



They had a festival after the week of peace. Where they start the yam planting. They celebrated it by gathering all the yam seeds and planting them. During this time OKankwo went to the field with his son Nwoye and Ikemefuna (Okonkwos adopted son). They also helped him by fetching the yams in long baskets from the barn and in counting the prepared seeds in groups of four hundreds. They celebrated it because they know since they had pleased the earth goddest and in that way she would be pleased. The men would go to their farms and they take their children and they would start the harvesing.
