Okonkwo and his family went to the farm wih baskets of seed yams, hoes and machetes, and the planting began.The reason they took the seed yams, hoes, and machetes was because they were going to plant the seeds from the yams, so they could have food for the future. They used this in daily life, so they can have food, becuase that's all they really had to eat.

The women weeded the farm three times a definate periods in the life of the yams, neither early nor late because the yams can grow at any time during the year. There are three definate times that yams can grow.

Okonkwo and his family worked very hard to plant a new farm because they had to have new farm lands. They had to prepare for the growing of the yams. There was so much yams because that's all there was to eat.
