Hypothesis can be modified to be a comparison of its traits to those of a similar species or to be an explanation of the function of a particular trait.
In English that means, your hypothesis can be comparing the characters of two stories or explaining what characters did in this story and why. Do you explain the purpose of the spine by comparing it to how other creatures use a spine or by showing how this creature uses its spine? Either way works!
