English Internet Chat
(** You need to register and get a password for this. Some students have had problems with this. If you need help ask the teacher or Lab Technician.)
Chat is a way you can have a written conversation with someone else almost anywhere in the
world. Probably some of you have used chat before. If you haven't, do not worry! It is quite
easy to learn. And it is a great way to practice your computer skills and your English skills.
The following is a chat for ESL students. (* If you really feel you would rather use another chat
service, please have it approved by the teacher.) Go to the following site:
http://www.eslcafe.com/chat/chatpro.cgi
- Follow the instructions carefully when you get there. *You will need to register.
- When you arrive at "Dave Sperling's ESL Chat Central", there will probably be some
other ESL students using this room already. They could be from just about anywhere in
the world.
- Click on "Reload" and scroll down to see recent messages. Write your own messages in
the large white box at the top left. Click on Post to post it (or send it). Click on the
"To" menu to choose who you want to sent the message to. Choose Entire Room for
everybody in the chat. Choose a name if you only want that person to see your message.
Remember that anybody can see these messages! Let's be careful what we say
online.
Have Fun!!
