Four Walls

Four walls around me
Ceiling above, floor below
Safe, secure, protected
What else need I know?

Four walls around me
Locked in small confines
No air to breathe, No breeze to feel
Dying quietly.

Four walls around me
Closed in on every side
Like being inside a box
No fear of the world outside.
Four walls around me
Quiet as a tomb
Held in velvet darkness
As in a mother's womb.

Four walls around me
Trapped as in a a cell
A tiny world I cannot leave
Is this all I'll ever know?
Four walls around me
Safety - they once meant more
Now closed in all around me
Until I am no more.
