A Dad Like Mine

My dad was special to me as a child
A good one who kept me from being too wild
So I'l like to say a word or two
Pay attention, Dad, This one's for you.

School couldn't do it so you taught Math
I enjoyed our trips through many a wooded path
Before you came along the beach was a bore
You taught me to swim so I could get off shore.

Through fishing and farming and a horse to ride
There was something growing I couldn't hide
Your hands weren't always gentle like in the country song
But I learned to love you and it didn't take long.

If not for you to lend an ear
I'd not know what I'd want for a career
Country music you said was just the thing
My voice was suited for to sing

I grew up knowing what I could do
No one else could have a dad like you
I know I'm lucky for what I had
Gee, I'm glad you are MY dad!!
