OUR MISSION
At White Clay Learning Center, it is our intent to balance the
precious experiences of the home-schooled child with the
invaluable connection to their peers and community.
Through a combination of home-schooling and/or tutoring,
professional and community workshops, resource sharing,
apprenticeships, museums, and projects, we seek to give
each child an individualized learning experience.

EDUCATIONAL FACETS OF OUR CENTER
Parental home-schooling or tutoring: 5 to 15 hours per week
We believe that the central starting point of every child's
learning experience should be an individualized education
which bases itself upon the child's developmental needs and
interests. This approach fosters confidence, self-directed
learning and each child's understanding of their road map
through life. The foundation of the learning experience is
either lessons with the child's parents or personalized
tutoring with an experienced parent teacher.
Teacher guided mini-classrooms: 7 to 9 hours per week
Another facet of a complete and well-rounded education is an
arena which allows the child to exercize their intellectual gifts
in a structured setting with other children and adults. Our
three experienced teachers develop a curriculum with no
developmental or content barriers. They base each bimonthly
theme solely on the needs and interests of the children and
incorporate all of the learning styles. We use our curriculum
as a tool to teach children the important skills of critical
thinking, problem solving, cooperative learning,
collaboration, peer tutoring, and group experimentation.
Through this approach, our focus is on the process of
understanding and analyzing the diverse content presented to
them.
Subject specific workshops: 3 to 5 hours per week
A third necessary facet to eduction is the introduction of our
children into specific subject areas and trades. We offer
interested parents and professionals the opportunity to share in
their area of expertise. Some of these workshops (Spanish, dance)
continue throughout the school year. Other workshops are
offered for one month and offer the child an important
introduction to various subjects. Some workshops in the past
have included care and riding of horses, cooking, health and fire
safety, chemistry, physics, and theater. Our yearly theater
workshops include mask making and scenery design and
culminates in a performance for family and friends.
