Loss Cuitziclan Crustaceans Lizardman 52k 2-4 2-7 50k 113
This was not a good start. In general, it was a really BAD start. It's bad enough that our only thrower was killed, but by a reptile?! Things like that make you angry, especially when your apotechary seems to have better things to do than save lives. Perhaps it had something to do with the scales that were found on his clothes, but I did not say that! Anyway, after our first, brilliant goal by Forrest the egg-layers scored four, all thanks to their unrelenting luck and almost magic armor. During that time both Alder and Oak were hit hard, with Alder suffering a terrible leg injury. And so it was that in the end of the second half, with 4 players on the field, the Arboreals decided to show the shellfish what courage is all about. Their opponents might have had an advantage from the blazing sun, but that was nothing compared to the inferno inside an enraged Wood Elf. Ashley, Woody and Acorn lined up to face the charge, while Maple stayed behind to catch the ball. As the ball came to rest, Maple dashed over and threw a perfect pass to Acorn, just as Ashley branched down the lizard in front of her. Acorn quickly grabbed the ball and ran laughing into the Cuitziclan horde, easily dodging what looked more like a green anthills than a defensive line. As he waited for support something sneaked up on him, but it only managed to prod him before Woody came to his aid and swept it away. Acorn threw him the ball, and there was nothing the lizardmen could do, except gape in amazement from the perfectly executed example of how Blood Bowl is supposed to be played.
Loss Frantic Fanatics Goblin 54k 1-2 3-7 60k 127
After the opening against the Shellfish, the Arboreals were only able to field 8 players. However, three heroic fans did come to the resuce and the game could be played. The game started with a real crash, as one of the opposing trolls had been stupid enough to insult Ashley. It was branched and badly hurt, but poor Ashley had to leave the field. The game itself was not very exciting, except for the goal scored by Woody. Line elves and fans managed to hold off the goblins until the second half, but had to endure a heavy beating from the trolls. After the break it was clear the elves could not hold off the onslaught much more. The trolls managed to K.O. the last elves, and the field was empty. It was then the goblins surprised the crowd by picking up the ball. They actually managed to cross the field and SCORED A TD! The Arboreal support staff was busy discussing how the goblins had managed the feat, so none of the wood elves woke up. With the same amazing skill (at least for goblins), the Fanatics scored another touchdown. This time all five KO'ed elves decided it was time to play and lined up on the field. The ball was an easy catch, and it looked like a sure point. That is, until the bad luck that had followed the Arboreals since the start struck again, with cunning and malice unsurpassed, causing a failure on a 3+ dodge with a re-roll! There is nothing unusual in failing a 3+ roll, but failing almost every single 3+ dodge in the match should not happen. There was nothing to do, the match was lost. But the curse was not lifted. Even after playing a demo game, and with a +3 on the roll, our winnings stopped at 60k.
Win Fudgit's Flea Biter Sqwad Goblin 39k 2-0 4-5 100k 140
Our new addition, Lauren, had increased our player total to 10. Just like last match, fans came to the rescue. Nothing much happened in this match, except one funny thing: Three goblins were first badly hurt, and then failed their penalty rolls too. Forrest scored two TDs and Ashley caused two casualities. A short sale of merchandise raised enough money for another Thrower and a Line Elf, Zac and Roan.
Chaos Cup 2499 Play-off
Win Asgard Raiders Human 33k 2-1 3-1 80k 150 Round 1
A Supreme Victory! That is, if you don't count the tragic loss of Aspen, one of our MVEs (Most Valuable Elf). Maple got her second MVE award, and developed her blocking skills. Woody turned out to have a natural talent for tackling, and Acorn secured his position as the fastest elf on the team. Elmo the Fir, one of the treemen rooting for The Arboreals, signed on.
Win Undead Asskickers Undead 36k 3-1 4-7 90k 161 Round 2
Another Supreme Victory. Sadly, winning requires sacrifice, Forrest suffered a serious concussion (-1 AV) because our apotechary was busy resuing Ashley. Luckilu, Acorn was able to secure the victory alone, scoring all three TDs. Whirling Leaf gained his first skill, Mighty Blow. We also upgraded our rerolls from one to two. The Finals seem within reach. If only a few more wood elves would come out of the forests and support us... A +3 modifier on the last three rolls has increased our fan factor by zero, nil, nothing!
Win Skulls Undead 68k 2-1 1-3 80k 173 Round 3
We won, with only one Catcher and 12 players, against a clearly more powerful opponent! No lasting damage! Never underestimate a Wood Elf! Actually, we had one SI, a smashed knee, but our apotechary fixed it without problems. The game started with a 4-turn riot. Clearly, Wood Elves do not mix well with dead people... Fortune was clearly favoring our opponents, as all Ashley and Elmo could do was prod their opponents, and Whirling Leaf was tripped while smashing a way for Acorn. Our next turn was just as bad. Then the ball deflated, and it turned out the fault was in the ball, for after lining up, Acorn got the ball and ran right through the Undead line into the End Zone. A perfect one-turn TD. Recognizing the sheer power of our opponents, we lined up far behind the line of scrimmage, leaving Ashley, Elmo and Alder to take the charge. Both our treemen fell, but Alder managed to dodge away and run deep. Elmo stood up and tried to knock down a zombie, but with no luck. Then he was knocked down again, but his Thick Skull protected him from the powerful hit. One of the skeletons was ejected for fouling, but Ashley had to spend the rest of the match badly hurt. One of the wights followed Alder, but he only got himself knocked down. In the start of the second half there was a lot of fighting, and when Woody stripped the ball from a ghoul, it was caught by a mummy experiencing a moment of Inspired Play. Woody tried again, and this time the ball ended up on the ground. He ran over, picked it up, and gave it to Acorn who scored our second TD. The next drive involved a lot of scrambling for the ball, and the Wood Elves could not equal the Undead in close combat. After a throw-in, the was only one tackle zone on the ball, but that wight proved willing to keep it that way. After that failed attempt, there was only one Elf left standing. Needless to say, the Undead made sure it didn't stay that way, and there was no one left standing to stop the wight from scoring with the help of a scroll of speed. We lined up for our 7th turn. Elmo "went for it", and pushed a zombie out of Acorn's way. There was only one wild card left: Their wizard. His lightning spell struck with terrible accuracy. It hit Acorn right before he reached the end zone, but it only knocked him down, and the ball ended up in the End Zone. The rest of our players ran up the field, covering all Undead close enough to get the ball, but somehow their ghoul blitzed its way out and picked up the ball. He was quickly reached by a Line Elf, but when Whirling Leaf ran up to strike him down, he was tripped by the same wight who stopped him in the first drive. Our luck was out, and the score stopped at 2-1. We got our fair share of the winnings, 80k, and the Undead also got what they deserved: 10k. We also got some new fans. Both Lauren and Zac learned accuracy, and Zac trained his on picking up the ball. Acorn perfected his footwork. Alder proved that he was an able player, regardless of his speed handicap, and earned a MVE. The other two were given to Zac and Lilac, who took some blocking lessons from Maple. We also got a new team-mate, Aspen. Not the MVE Aspen who was killed in the game against Asgard Raiders, though.
Win Warriors of Carnage Chaos 47k 2-1 0-7 140k 193 Round 4
It all started with Bad Habits, on WoC of course. WoC received the ball and managed to smash their way up our flank. Enter ST5 diving tackler protecting ball carrier. Enter War Dancers failing to stop them. Enter warped sense of reason making them stop one step before the end zone. In the meantime, the other players spent the time hitting each other. A lot of WoC players got KO'ed, and a few elves were Badly Hurt. Enter round 8. Enter WoC TD. Enter One-turner line-up. Against Woc? Right! Enter Goreblade revealing first trick: assassin. Enter Doublecross. Enter mine. Enter Acorn falling. Enter Halftime. Enter Second Half. Enter same setup. Enter Goreblade with different plan. Enter Morley's revenge. Enter half the team lying prone. Enter Blitz. Kinda makes you angry, doesn't it? We still got control of the ball, and after a little scuffling, Woody got the ball. Enter our first TD. Enter WoC receiving. Enter WoC box on flank. Enter scuffling. Enter treeman going for it and successfully DODGING into box. Enter ball carrier leaving field (I wonder how that happened...) and throw-in far into WoC half. Enter elf picking up the ball and beastman failing to knock him down. Enter 2-1. That's really it. Oh, yeah, we kidnapped their coach, boosting our winnings to 140k, enough to buy two new line elves. Other points: He got the ref once. Then I played biased ref, and proceeded to get the ref.. TWICE. Only two serious injuries, both smashed hands (only miss). Apotechary failed to heal one of them.
Win DaDark- MoonMoronz Orc 49k 3-2 3-4 50k 197 Round 5
There might be errors in this, my memories from the game are shady. It seems WoC left a lasting impression on us. The Moronz chose to receive, and we lined up to take the expected charge. Then all the orcs start running up my flanks, making two boxes, one of them containing the ball carrier. I can't remember if he threw a single block that turn. Then I go, and for the next three turns I get through their armor all four or five tries! I couldn't stop him, though, and he scored. I know I scored after that, in round 7, but I can't remember how. He lined up for his last turn, but got a Turnover when he failed to get the ball. Acorn was in position, and I ran for the ball. And rolled snake-eyes. First half ended 1-1. I am pretty sure I managed to score quickly in the second half, and most of the remaining time was used stalling his drive. But he scored again, in his turn 7. But this time Acorn scored, making it 3-2. YES!
Win Rosenborg Norse 67k 4-3 4-3 60k 206 Round 6
Okay, I won. But so many things happened, I don't think I'll manage to make a summary. In short, he scored, I scored, he scored, I tried to score, he bolted me, I scored, I scored, he scored in turn 7, second half. 3-3. In turn 8, I scored again. I WON! Strangely, all of Rosenborg's injuries were SI's or deaths. Ashley tried to die again, but my apotechary saved her. She has almost died twice, but except for one Badly Hurt, I don't think any of my treeman have been in the dugout "against their will".
Win Skulls Undead 102k 5-3 0-14 40k 202 Quarter Final
This game turned out much like everyone would predict, just a little more extreme in every way. Before the game, a Press Gang prevented Skulls' leader & diving tackle skeleton from showing up (which also holds for their next game). Forrest got hold of a Magic [Head Thingy]. 102,000 fans turned out to watch us beat the undead. We received the ball, and it was a clean TD in our first turn. When the undead lined up again, the frenzied mummy went berserk on one of our War Dancers, removing him from the pitch, but the mummy was sent off as well (I'll get you). The resulting turnover gave us the chance we needed. The ball had landed right behind the undead line, but it was guarded by a zombie and a skeleton. Aspen smashed down the zombie, but as Roan prepared to get the ball, a fireball enveloped him and four other elves. With Roan down, Lauren had to do his job. She dodged through one tackle zone, picked up the ball in another with sure hands, dodged out and through a third tackle zone to throw the ballin the pouring rain to Acorn, who performed "same procedure as last turn". At this point my memory gets blurry. By halftime, the score was 3-1. In the first drive, there was little to do. They smashed through our 8 players and reduced to 3-2. When we lined up, I believe we were down to 5 players. One War Dancer smashed a hole on the undead flank and ran further. Lilac got the ball, but the pass missed and bounced off the pitch. The throw-in was deep into the undead half. Skulls surrounded the War Dancer, but failed to pick up the ball, so he leaped out, smashed down the ghoul by the ball and picked it up. Then Acorn, unguarded, ran up to take the ball and score 4-2. This was turn 4. Skulls could not win. They reduced to 4-3 in two turns, and reduced our team, too. In our turn 6, we lined up with two players on the field, Acorn and Aspen. Aspen knocked down a zombie and retreated. Acorn followed and picked up the ball. All the undead ran as fast as they could (which is REALLY slow) and Aspen was knocked down and out with a niggling injury. Acorn however, was not trapped. He turned and ran towards the undead half, leaving everyone but one mummy behind, and threw the ball deep. The mummy went for it twice and struck with all its might, but Acorn was left standing. He could easily dodge out, pick up the ball and, as the only elf on the field, score 5-3. Our fan factor increased one, and Skulls lost one. Of course, we got only 40k (with a +3 mod), not enough to replace either Ashley or Alder.
Loss Overkommando'n Undead 91k 0-2 3-5 60k 202 Semi Final
Not too much to tell. We had a chance in the end of the first half. A wight held the ball a few squares from the end zone and an elf ran up to him. The diving tackle was attacker down, but he made the pro roll. Another elf followed and blitzed the wight and got attacker down. Of course, I had spent my reroll earlier, and Overkommando'n managed to counter and score. In the second half, we were basically not very up-and-going and the loss was really inevitable. One strange thing happened: one of our players was hurt and I got to play "Get'em lads!" and go on rampage. A thrower, without block, dodge or anything else ran into a diving tackle, caused a casuality and proceeded to blitz another undead causing a second casuality in one round. But this could not change the way the game going, and we lost.
Loss Bitterbeer Brewers Dwarf 85k 1-2 2-5 70k 212 Bronze Final

Voice of the Owner

The Chaos Cup is over. Fourth place was not what we expected, but after the match against Skulls, it was no surprise.
