Loving Fishing by Lauren

Fishing is not just a personal hobby, it is a passion. Many of my favorite childhood memories are based around this simple, yet very relaxing pastime. Almost all of our family camping trips included fishing, whether it was to Mount Shasta in small creeks, on the jetty at the beach, or just fishing in our own small pond at home. When I was a little girl, my father and older brother helped me learn the "ropes"and perfect my skills. I grew up appreciating fishing, and how this activity is truly an artform.

My very first fish I caught by myself was a very rewarding moment. I believe that I was around five years old. On that historic day in my life, I was at Collin's Lake, fishing on shore using a bobber and a cup of worms. The day was hot, a perfect summer's day. Today's target; rainbow trout. For hours I sat, watching my pole with anxiety jumping up from my rock when the bobber moved a fraction of a centimeter. I truly did learn the meaning of patience that day. Never before did I sit so still for so long, for a beautiful fish that I may not catch. However, the moment came. My heart began to pound as I reeled in the fish, using all my strength. Minutes later, I was grinning a huge, toothless grin to my Mom's camera with a small trout in my hand, wriggling and jerking. Although I let the fish go in the brown lake, I was filled wiht the endless satisfaction that I had finally caught my own fish, no matter how long it took.

Fishing is a very satisfying sport for me. I have learned through my experience to become patient, enjoy the environment and nature, and how to hook a worm or cricket without help. Mainly, however, I have appreciated spending quality time with my family doing an activity that we all love and can share together.
