I said...GETTING THERE IS HALF THE FUN!!!

Perhaps expanding on my love for aviation flight and the gorgeous views afforded this time around, along with a pretty keen eye might I add, I can only re-emphasize the following....GETTING THERE IS HALF THE FUN!!!

From the beginning, this here is the 747 that took us on the first leg of our journey to Swinging London, this is a British Airways 747-200 "classic", as the Brits refer to it. It is seen here parked at gate M-11 at O'Hare International Terminal 5. to the left you can see a TAROM Romainian Airbus A310 getting ready for a similar intercontinental journey.

It goes without saying that one of my favorite parts of flying eastbound on a trans-Atlantic flight is encountering daybreak. Picture it if you will, you are flying in darkness for 3 some odd hours, then all of the sudden, you can make out the black sillouette that is the wing, against a sky that is getting less and less dark by the minute, and if you look to the east hard enough (by totally empaling your face against the window that is), you even see the sunrise over Europe.

Same thing here, if you are ever going across the Atlantic on an overnight flight, I truly belive that this is one sight worth satying awake for. There is just no describing it, it's pure magic.

A view of the Atlantic ocean as we head towards the coast of Ireland and eventually into the United Kingdom.

Same here...I just love these photos!

After an uneventful arrival into London Heathrow, we now await the flight to Athens to board and eventually depart. This particular BA Boeing 767-300 is called "Waves and Cranes" because of the artwork on the tail. Behind it you can see a Boeing 747-400 being pushed back from the gate.

Nearing the end of the 3 hour, 5 minute trip from London to Athens, I was overly ecstatic when given the clear skies over Greece, I was able to spot the islands of the Ionian Sea: Kefallonia, Ithaki, and Zakinthos. Kefallonia is the island where my mother hails from, and it was our secon intended destination. Here it is in all it's glory, from some 20,000 feet in the air.

Immediately due south of Kefallonia, we see the island of Zakinthos, southern-most island in the Ionian Sea, and on our list for excursion.

Another one of Zakinthos here.

Here again is Kefallonia, the village where we would be staying at is on the other side of the mountain just off the training edge of the wing.

With a good view of the east coast of the island, we can see the beaches of Skala, Poros, Agia Efimia, and Sami up to the tip. Right at the right edge of the photograph you could see the southern edge of Ithaki, another island on our list for excursion, and the land of Oddyseus...for those of you that know your Greek Mythology!

I just love these pictures. I am so psyched that tey came out! As you can obviously tell.
