CHAPTER FOUR

TIME : Friday, October 3rd, 1997

"You can never have too much fun, until something bad happens..." - Sheila

"Look, I don't care what you say, I don't ever want to talk to you again!" screamed Brian.
"Let me help you, you're going insane!" I yelled back.
"I can't take this anymore, ever since she died, and now you tell me that you kissed her, I HATE YOU!!"
"Please get a grip, you're my best friend, I didn't mean to--"
"Oh YES YOU DID, YES YOU DID!"
"NO!"
"YES YOU DID! YOU DID!" tears started going down Brian's cheeks.
"Listen to me, please!!" I said, getting watery eyes myself seeing my best friend suffering like this.
"NO, I WILL NOT LISTEN TO ANYONE ANYMORE!!" Brian said and quickly reached for a gun in his drawer, put it to his head and boom, he shot himself in the head. I was shocked, I didn't know what to think or how to react, my best friend had just killed himself in front of my eyes. I fell to my knees, tears started flooding down my cheeks, "No" I cried, "No, why did you do this??". "My friend...my best friend I thought, and now I lost him, you could say it's my fault, GOD, I don't deserve to live, I deserve the same pain and grief I've given to this person whom I call my best friend, cursed I will be forever!!!!" I screamed in agony, I just couldn't accept the fact that my best friend had just killed himself. I grabbed the gun, gazed at it for a moment, "no" I said, "no, don't add more tragedy to this hellhole, pull yourself together man, pull yourself together man..." and I lowered my head...

I raised my head, "that's it" I said. "lights!" yelled the teacher, and the lights were turned back on, Brian got up. Then I grabbed some papers and began, "Kevin, tried to cope with his pain the next couple of days, but being asked so many questions and told he had to go to court, Kevin, slith his wrist with a kitchen knife in front of his bathroom's mirror, on the night of April 15th, 1996.........." Then Brian went "So that's the story of Kevin Montero, and how he ended driving himself crazy because of the death of his best friend. Thank you."

Everyone clapped, "very good" said the english teacher, who is hardly impressed. "That was a very good oral report, and the theater act was great, come here while I grade you." We both went to the teacher and we scored a...............96% "Yeah!" I told Brian, "I told you we'd make a good team" he said. "Always" I grinned.

I felt really good today, things were definitely looking bright, I have gone out with Lily a couple of times now, but I still haven't asked her the question, I mean, I don't know really, when I think about it I get all nervous and I just can't think straight. Brian was doing ok, and...I just got an A! It's like, those weird moments in life you actually feel happy and you think your life just couldn't get better, of course we all know those don't last.

It was friday, three weeks had passed since my date with Lily, and tonight, there was a kick ass party we all planned to go to. It was at a new disco they had just opened, they said it was very good. The party started at 9 pm, we all decided to meet outside, you know, Angel, Brian( who by some miracle decided to come), Sheila, Lily, Kat and me. That party was great at first then it got really weird...

I got to the party at 8:52 pm, no one was there, but Brian came with me cause we gave him a lift and there were already a bunch of people in front of the disco waiting cause it was still not open. I looked and Brian and he seemed a bit shaky, "Nervous?" I asked.
"What? Oh, yes, well, a little bit, aren't you?" he replied.
"Yes...a little" I said.
Then he chukled.

We waited for a while, we didn't talk really, then Lily, Sheila and Kat came, I greeted the girls and kissed Lily, all of them were gorgeous. Sheila had a long black dress that sparkled in the light, and she had a little tiara with diamonds that held back her long dark hair. Kat had a tight little red dress that sort of changed from a dark red tone to a light red tone in the light, her curly light brown hair was curled up at the top of her head. Then Lily, ah, Lily had a long blue dress that had spaguetti straps and she had a scarf that hung from her right hand, passed through the back of her neck and then hung off her left hand, she had her hair done and now it was wavy, and it looked beautiful. Afterwards Angel came and we all stood in the line, and when they opened the disco, we all went in...

"Cool" I said as I entered the disco, the entranced was a strech little corridor and black sheets hung from the roof, making the walls, on them little stars and moon shone as well as glitter that was scattered across the sheets. Then on the next room, a small, rather odd looking, reception room were they charged for the tickets and let you enter to the dance floor. Now, the dance floor was awesome, there were two floors, on the first floor in the center was the bar, on the sides were these stairways that led to the second floor, there was also a maze on the first floor, a lot of little dark rooms, you can bet what they were for...the dance floor was on the second floor, and it was made out of 10-inch thick glass, all sorts of lights and lasers were on the roof, as well as smoke generators. There were more rooms here, with really comfortable couches and more dark corners, some sort of neon lights were on the disco, that made everything white shine, and some large tube-like columns that went all the way up to the sencond floor, there was water inside them, and bubbles flowed up, plus there was a light inside them that changed colors every once in a while.

"Let's go dance!" I said to Lily, wasting no time, I grabbed her by the hand, and I went upstairs, the place was flooding already with people, we lost the others. Went we got to the second floor, we both looked down through the glass floor, I don't know if she was thinking what I was thinking, but I was sure thinking..."Could this break??"..They put on some techno song, and we started dancing...really lame at first, hey, we were getting in the mood! Then we picked it up, Lily would laugh at the way I was dance and I'd say "What??" and she was like, "Nothing" and she laughed some more, and I'd laugh too as well.

After a while, we saw Brian and Sheila dancing next to us, I went "HEY!" and Brian said hey back at me. This was so much fun, but it was sure getting hot. Then some rap music then went off, and I decided to rest for a bit. "We're gonna get something to drink" we told Brian and Sheila and they nodded. We went downstairs, "This is so much fun" I told Lily. "I know! I've never danced so much!" and she smiled at me, she kinda told me that it was because of me that she was having so much fun and dancing so much, that made me feel good. I smiled at her and she smiled at me.

When we got to the bar, I ordered a "Coke" and asked Lily what did she want. She leaned over the bar and said "A Long Island". "What?" I said suprised.
She looked at me "Um..what?"
"You just ordered a Long Island.." and I couldn't do anything but let out a chukle.
"Yeah....so...what?" she said confused.
"Oh nothing, it just surprised me..that you drink" I said.
"Oh, yeah I drink, but not much and it's not the end of the world Jacob"
"Oh well...cool...maybe I should drink too" I said, feeling under pressure.
"That'll be 4 bucks..." said the bartender, I took some money out of my wallet and payed him.
"Oh, don't do it if you don't want to, really, it's fine with me" then she smiled, but differently. It made me feel a whole lot better. Then out of no where, some one holding a beer put the beer right on my face. "Here, have some man", it was Angel, whom I say loves beer. "No, I'll pass man" I said and pushed his hand away. He left grumbling, "Ok, ok, but don't ask me for some when it's gone, ok??"
I laughed. "I hope I don't ever get like that."
Lily laughed, "Oh, you won't, at least you better not."
"Yeah.." I said.
"Hey guys!" said Brian.
"Hey" said Lily and me, "where's Sheila?"
"She stayed, uh, dancing."
"Oh" I said.
"Coke!" yelled Brian.
"Where's Kat?" asked Lily, out of the blue.
"I dunno, haven't seen her since we entered." I said.
"Yeah, me neither" added Brian.
Then Lily glanced forward, and said "Oh."
Then Brian said "Can you believe all the people there's in here??"
"Yeah it's kinda scary!" I answered.
"I've seen worse.." said Lily.
"Woah" I said.
"Well, I'm gonna ..explore." said Brian.
"Ok." I said.
"Later." he said, and he was off. I lost him quickly in the crowd.
"Let's go dancing again" said Lily.
"I wanna have a look around, if you don't mind.." I said.
"Oh, not at all, go ahead, I'll go dance." she said.

Then we split, and I decided to walk around the disco. All the weird people that I didn't know, suddenly I felt alone, and I didn't like feeling like this. I decided to go back to the dance floor and find Lily or someone else to dance with. As I was walking back through some rooms, I saw Kat, and she was kissing with some guy on a couch, it looked really gross, they were all groping each other and they were attached by their mouths, and I didn't even recognize the guy, for a second or too, I wondered what it all felt like, but then I felt kinda sick cause this was my friend here, I went up to the dance floor.

Lily was dancing with Angel, it was reggae and she was dancing all slutty-like, I turned around and decided to look for someone else to dance with, then I bumped into Sheila. "Hey, wanna dance?" I asked her, "sure!" she said. We started dancing, god that reggae music is weird, it makes YOU feel all weird, but it's cool. Sheila started dancing with me, and she would move her body in such an enchanting way, and she put her hands in her head and move her belly, and she moved up and down, I didn't feel really comfortable, but it was ok, then I looked over at where Lily was, and she was looking at me, I felt horrible, why did I feel like this?? Why did I have such strong feelings for her?? I thought she would be mad at me, but then why would she be? This was so confusing. The song finally ended, I walked over to Lily and told her about Kat. Lily seemed a bit surprised, but when I described the guy, she went "OH, That's Michael, Kat and him are close friends, don't worry about it.

Then, they put this song, Aerosmith's I don't wanna miss a thing, Lily and me came close to each other, I held her in my arms, and she held me in hers. After we've been dancing for a while, she whispered in my ear, "You know....I felt kinda weird there, dancing with some guy....who wasn't you.". I smiled and whispered back, "I know just how you felt..". She smiled and layed her head on my shoulder.......Then I saw Brian, and he was dancing with some girl, they were even closer than us, and his hand was way lower than on her back...who was she?? Now I definitely didn't know her...."Now who do you supposed that is, dancing with Brian?" I whispered to Lily. She glanced and whispered "Looks like Brian just got a girlfriend....and she's a total stranger" then she smiled, and I smiled, faking not to be worried.

Then the song ended, and a loud song went off, it's D Genertion's Helpless, it's on the movie 'The Faculty's soundtrack, I have it. Everybody started jumping around, the dancefloor felt like it was going to break, Lily laughed out loud, and I laughed and we both started jumping and dancing as well. Brian was gone now though, but I didn't care, I kept on dancing it was so much fun. Lily and I danced so much then, the lights going on and off and smoke everywhere, it was cool. I started dancing like crazy in front of Lily and she just laughed harder and harder and I laughed with her.

After the song was over, I told Lily that I wanted to see where Brian was, and she said she'd wait for me downstairs while she got a drink. "Ok" I said, and went downstairs...I looked and looked, I didn't see Brian....but he saw me. "Jacob! Jacob! Man come here!" I turned and saw Brian, with that girl on one of his arm and a beer on the other. I went towards him and he said "Hey man! This.....is..she's my wife man" Brian was drunk, I had never seen him like this, "Really?" I laughed and just tried to go along..."Hi," she said "I love being with two guys at the same time". Gross, I thought. Then Brian bursted out laughing, then he let her go and hugged me, saying "and this...this is my best friend....I LOVE THIS MAN!!" He sniffled and hugged me harder. I escaped from his arm and said "Man, you're way drunk". "NO I'm not, right baby?" He said. "Nah" she said. Then Brian kissed her right in the mouth, and it lasted. "Well, see ya later man, I'm going..." then he leaned forward and sort-of whispered out loud to me, "..going to the rooms that is!" then he giggled crazily, and she giggled too. what was just happening here??

I went back to the bar to look for Lily and I saw Sheila, she was sitting in a bar stool, and she looked real sad, she was crying really....and her dress...her dress was torn...I quickly went up to her. "What happened???"...
"Some jerk!" she said.
"WHAT??" I asked worried.
"Some guy...I was just dancing with him, don't you see, you can never have too much fun, until something bad happens..." she cried.
"Oh I'm so sorry!" I said.
"DOn't be!" she answered quickly.
I hugged her and she hugged me back.
"These parties...stuff like this always happens..." she said softly.
"I think we should go.." I said, taking a stand.
"Please..." she whispered.
"Well, let's go look for Lily and the others.

When I found Lily, she quickly got desperate when she saw Sheila, I explained what had happened, and we went outside. Once outside, I told Lily to stay with Sheila, I was going to look for the others. Angel was easy to find, but hard to take out of the party, he was all like "What?? No way man" but he responded when I told him about Sheila. Kat was dancing now, at least I didn't find them right in intercourse, she was dancing with the same guy, but she agreed to go, she was tired anyway. Then Brian was hard to find, I look every where and I just couldn't find him, where was he now??

I tried to think where he would be, and I just couldn't think of any place he would be, then I thought of a place he might be, the bathroom! I quickly got to the bathroom, and eureka, there he was, only he wasn't ok at all, he was sitting on the corner of the bathroom, and he was falling asleep, I went near him and bent down.
"Brian...Brian" I said, softly, trying not to startle him.
He had a beer in his arm and he looked sick.
"Brian! wake up!" I said, and slapped him softly in the face.
Then he started coming to...
"..Jacob.." he said.
"Let's go man" I said.
"I'm sorry" he said.
"It's ok man, get up" I said.
"No, I really am sorry" he said, but I didn't get him. I helped him get up, he could barely walk by himself, but he manage to get to the toilet and then he started throwing up..."I really fucked up this time" he said.
"No, you didn't man, it's not that bad" I said, conforting him.
"I'm glad you're here.." he said.
"Let's go home Brian, the others are waiting." I said.
"You'll still be my best friend right?" he asked.
"Hell, yeah of course man, why wouldn't I be? You did nothing wrong, and you're way too much of a good friend, as for me to leave you jsut because you got drunk."
"But I had sex with that girl!" he yelled.
"Let's just go Brian, forget it.." I said.

I had to help him to walk out, but we finally made it, I called my dad with my cel. phone, and had the other called theirs, I told my dad to wait till the last one left just so that no one would have to stay alone, it was 2 a.m., the party was weird for me, I'm not used to get things so out of control, and I can't help everyone, I felt really responsible for everyone that night, being the only one who didn't drink.....at least nothing really bad happened, and I was glad that it didn't.....
