Personal Responsability

You know, it's so funny how we get caught up in our everyday woes and allow that to inhibit our life experience. Not only what we are experiencing now, but also those experiences we have had in our past.

The same goes for religion, for those that are spiritual. We can get so centered in our daily spiritual practices, that we forget where we are, where we have been, or what goal we have for the future. That is why it is so very important, regardless the religion or spirituality you practice, to experience and practice your spirituality in a positive manner.

A person's spirituality/religion more often than not identifies who a person is or at the very least helps to explain their position within the universe. If you are not practicing your spirituality/religion in a positive manner, it can over-shadow you. In turn, this creates a falsified image of yourself, and you are in danger of losing your identity. Or possibly, this could cause the reverse effect, creating an over inflated Ego, as you may deliriously believe yourself to be The All.

Of course, this defeats the entire purpose of practicing your spirituality/religion. This is what I like to refer to as The Dark side of the Moon Effect. Instead of allowing our spirituality to enhance our daily existence, by using it as a platform to experience life, we use it as a barrier between ourselves and our reality. Usually, this is due to an emotional wound or baggage that we carry. We use our spirituality/religion to block out unwanted feelings or thoughts, causing an imbalance within our existence. One part of your life, your spirituality, will overshadow the other parts of your life.

Typically this causes our Spirits/Souls to become malnourished, and we begin cutting ourselves off into portions and petitions. This will cause imbalances within your emotional, mental, or physical being. Generally speaking, the most basic result of The Dark side of the Moon Effect is an illness of some sort. More often than not, a physical illness results from this. Here's an Example:

My parents and I live in the Upper Mid-West. They live about 30 minutes away from me, and the rest of the family lives on the east coast. They had lived in the Mid-West for about 5 years, rarely seeing much of their family including my only other sibling, who also lives on the east coast. My parents have always led an active life and took care of themselves as best they can. My mom has always emphasized the importance of family, and keeping close. Of course coming from a family with 12 brothers and sisters, this is to be expected. Having a full time job and a family of my own, I was rarely able to make the trip to their home to visit.

Instead of trying to stay in contact with her family, she started turning to her religion to ease her loneliness. Her loneliness, of which no one was aware, took quite a toll on her spirit. Mind you, though, my mom is a very Christian woman, having grown up in a Baptist community. She turned naturally to her higher power to help sooth her loneliness. This, in itself, is not a bad thing. It is something most would expect. However, instead of using her spirituality to sooth her loneliness, she used it to block her negative feelings.

A few months passed and her demeanor and personality started to shift. When interacting with anyone she became distant, seeming less open and emotionally cool. When asked if she was ok, of course the natural response was yes. This blocking of emotions and energy, then began to affect her physical being. She started becoming tired, and achy. After about a month or so of that, her left leg began swelling and hurting to the point she left her work to go to the ER. The doctor then found a blood clot had grown from her knee to mid back, and surgery was required to take care of it. My brother and my aunt came from the east coast during this time. My aunt, who was more like my grandmother and my mom's mother, brightened my mom's spirits so much.

After the surgery, the doctors were able to take care of the illness, as my mom believed, the clot. My aunt stayed for a few weeks afterwards, spending much needed time with my mom. This of course helped to result in a very speedy recovery. My aunt then left, and within a few weeks my mom was again starting to feel tired and achy. After analyzing the situation, and a few conversations with my Spirit Guide, I came to the conclusion that the illness was not the clot or a blood illness, but a result of my mom using her spirituality to block herself from her emotions.

I took a day off work to talk with my mom regarding the changes in her personality and how she had been feeling. After a long talk she decided that maybe she could also make the effort to stay in contact with her family instead of just accepting the fact they were 24-30 hours away from her. Since then, her illness has all but completely vanished, and she is spunky and vibrant as she ever was. She is now living in her light, instead of in her darkness.
