- Alorithm
- An algorithm is a sequence of logical and mathematical operations designed to solve a
particlar problem. Often implemented as a computer program.
- Alpha particle
- A helium-4 nucleus emitted during the course of alpha decay. It is radioactive and can
disrupt organic matter.
- Artron energy
- This is an energy present in all humanoid minds. It is generated by sentient life-forms.
Artron energy is the basis of all ESP, telepathy, telekinesis and `sixth sense'.
- Beta particle
- A radioactive electron/positron.
- Black hole
- A region of outerspace where the gravitational field is so intense that nothing,
including light, can escape. The point of no return, the edge of the black hole, is often
called the event horizon. A block hole is formed when a massive star burns out its nuclear
fuel and collapses under its own weight. If the star is large enough, it will form a black
hole. Some stars collaspse to form a Naked Singularity. Black holes tend to stretch
and tear local space-time, to such an extent that block holes are often gateways into
universes of anti-matter and superspace.
- Blinovitch limitation effect
- A physical limitation on time-travel which stops time travellers from having a second
chance and returning to a previously-visited period to put things right. (See: 2.3.2.)
- Control room
- Also known as the console room, this is the first room one encounters when entering the
TARDIS. The cream-coloured room feature roundels, inset into the walls.
- Cosmos
- The universe as a well-orded whole, the entire space-time dimension of existance.
- Delta particles
- Particles which exist between dimensions, they are in essense the physical nature of limbo.
Delta particles are often emitted from time-travelling craft and equipment.
- Dematerialise
- To exit the real world and enter the space-time vortex.
- Event
- An event is a specific point in space-time, sometimes given a name for identification
purposes. It is a way of describing what happens by saying when and where it happens. Each
event has a unique space-time coordinate.
- Fifth dimension
- The fifth dimension is the dimension of parallel space, an example is the interior of
the TARDIS.
- First dimension
- One of three primary dimensions of space. Nominally denoted as length.
- Forth Dimension
- The forth dimension is time, a primary dimension.
- Geceleration
- A term which implies general acceleration, be it actual acceleration or teceleration.
- Gelocity
- A term which implies velocity, telocity, or relocity.
- Gamma radiation
- Electromagnetic radiation emitted by excited atomic nuclei. It penetrates most solids.
- Hubble's Law
- The distance to a distant galaxy is directly proportional to its observed velocity of
recession from the position of observation, therefore implying that the age of the
universe is inversely proportional to the constant of proportionality in the mathematical
expression of the law. The NAGCS uses algorithms based on this law.
- Key cutter
- The ship is fitted with a key cutter, which `duplicates' keys. New keys created are
always slightly different in design; an actual duplicate will jam the lock if used.
- Limbo
- The substance which separates dimensions. It primarily consists of delta particles. A
hole in space-time is actually a hole in the limbo.
- PAAD
- Permanent alternative artificial dimension. The TARDIS's interior exists in a PAAD.
Basically its an artificially created fifth dimensionsional space, as apposed to naturally
existing parallel dimensions.
- Plane
- A dimensional plane is a single universe. The TARDIS's interior dimension can be
considered as a single plane. A plane is often described as a relative dimension.
- Quantum mechanics
- A mathematical form of quantum theory dealing with the motion and interaction of atomic
and subatomic particles.
- Quantum theory
- A theory dealing with atomic particles, incorporating the concepts of wave-particle
duality and the discovery that it is imposssible to accurately know both the position and
the velocity of a particle.
- Real-
- Any noun prefaced with `real' indicates that the object/noun applies to normal space.
For example, the phrase real-world is often used to describe our universe in comparison to
the space-time vortex.
- Relocity
- Relative velocity. Used to calculate speeds in the space-time vortex.
- Rematerialise
- To leave the space-time vortex and re-appear in the real world.
- Roundels
- Circular indents which decorate the majority of the ship's inner walls. Roundels conceal
lighting, circuitry and ventilation.
- SASER
- Sonic Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. An `sonic laser'. The sonic
screwdriver uses this kind of technology.
- Second dimension
- A primary dimension of space, nominally denoted width.
- Space-time
- See space-time continuum.
- Space-time continuum
- Space-time dimension
- Space-time vortex
- Telocity
- Third dimension
- The third dimension is a primary dimension of space and is usually denoted as depth.
- Time
- See forth dimension.
- Time dimension
- See forth dimension.
- Time stream
- Time vortex
- See space-time vortex.
TpLC:
Meaning Telepathic Link Circuit, it
is a neural-artronic telepathic circuit which enables information to be passed one way to
Gallifrey. The information will be received in the main monitoring room.
Twenty-One keyhole choice:
If operated, the whole lock falls away from the
door and there are twenty-one keyholes to chose from, of which only one is the
correct hole. On using the wrong keyhole, the lock will jam, disabling the lock mechanism.
Universe: Defined as all existing things, the normal and natural space where all
things exist. It does not encompass alternative realities.
Universal Entropy State (UES): The condition of UES occurs when the
universe reaches its maximum size and it collapses under its own weight. The UES
prevents two event waves from colliding which would cause a temporal paradox and chaos
throughout the space-time dimension.
Very Low Resistance (VLR): A standard that can be applied to certain
types of treated metal, copper is one.
Zyton 7: A powerful and energy absorbing crystal that can hold millions
of Joules of electrical charge per square millimetre.
Zero-space: Also known as Z-Space, this spatial area is on the (0,0,0)
coordinate. E-space lies to the left and normal space to the right.
