Board Update 2-21-00
Are there serious problems endemic in our administration and its lack of responsibility to the working people, taxpayers and voters in our district?
Bill Adams seems to think so. And so do I.
Adams made this comment in response to a parent who has been having trouble with a bus driver in the district.
This parent claims the administration did nothing to solve her problems, stating that she had talked to administrators at least a dozen times and they had done nothing until she said she was taking it to the Board.
She went on to say that she felt she was "lied to, manipulated, and put on the back burner".
Adams said that there are serious problems with this administration and its lack of responsibility to the working people- taxpayers and voters.
Duh! But it's not limited to the administration! What this woman has encountered is a board and administration unwritten policy of:
1. Admit nothing 2. Deny everything and 3. Make counter accusations
I sure hope this parent's problems are resolved when they meet on Thur. during a Transportation Committee meeting.
In other news......
The board passed the bond issue to finance the renovations at Har-Mer and the Middle School. The architect's plans were approved and the projects will continue. But not without the most intense lobbying efforts I have ever seen.
Is this a good thing? Well, not in my opinion! Ok, OK, how can I say that? What about the poor Har-Mer children having to attend classes in a building that is falling down?
Well, I'm not saying they shouldn't get a better building. What I am saying is that despite years of planning, this board still doesn't have a clue! They passed these plans and this bond issue because they were so confused they had no choice. The plans fall far short in the planning for the future department. We will need more space at ALL our buildings faster then they can put Jim Roberts name on the Har-Mer building. Moraine is already full, the Area Elem. is getting there, and I don't think they have added enough classrooms in the Har-Mer plans!
So, no, I don't think it is a good thing that we are raising taxes for these projects! These plans are not forward looking and fall short in the logic department.
In the "wazup wit dis department"
According to our attorney, Mr. Breth, there is an ongoing investigation into improper use of district computers. This was disclosed last night when Adams wanted to discuss a matter concerning computers. Duryea's face turned white and Breth cut Adams off, saying that this was an "ongoing investigation" and better talked about in private. Huh! Our attorney is conducting an investigation?? I think we should all be very concerned and start asking some questions.
Now some of you might remember I have had some questions and concerns about this issue for some time, but this is the first time the subject has been uttered in public by anyone from the district.
I will keep you posted, I fear this one is really nasty- stay tuned.
