To honor the recipients, a $50 donation will be made to the Pat Madden Memorial Light Fund in Slippery Rock, and a $50 donation will be made to the Prospect Community Library. The following are excerpts from the recipients nominations. James Bailey, Librarian, SRAE Mr. Bailey has been there for countless children, introducing them to the world of literature and helping them find just the right book at the right time. His read alouds have enthralled thousands of children and helped them discover the joy of a good book. He deserves this honor for all he has done throughout his long career with the district. David Mruk, Music Teacher, SRAE Mr. Mruk's love of music and love for children makes him a top choice for educator of the year. His patience helps children love music and his dedication enables children at the Area Elementary school to have an outstanding music program. Becky Sopher, Music teacher, Moraine and Har-Mer I would like to nominate Becky Sopher, music teacher at Moraine and Har-Mer. Her involvement goes beyond her classroom year in and year out. Every year she works on the musical at the high school level, takes fifth grade students to district chorus, travels with a college choir as their accompanist and much more. Her classroom lessons are dynamic and involve all of her students no matter their music ability. She is very patient with those students just learning to play an instrument. Marietta Carney, Spanish teacher and Stage director for S. R. H. S. Ms. Carney not only excels as a teacher but also as a mentor for the H. S. musicals. She manages to get the best out of those who are willing to try with stage performance. Not an easy task and one totally under appreciated. It takes great dedication to pull together a group of diverse students and make them flow into a wonderful production of singing, dancing and acting! Hats off to Ms. Marietta Carney, she does a great job!! Aundria Polk, 3rd grade SRAE Mrs. Polk has served the district for many years and her upcoming retirement will leave a large whole in the elementary faculty. She has always been willing to try new curriculum and hang on to the best of the old curriculum. This has made her able to offer many different options of learning to her students. Whenever I talk to our graduates and asked who was the best teacher that they had during their years in our schools, her name is the first mentioned. They say that what they learned from her are things that were the backbone of their skills. She taught them life skills along with book knowledge. Rebecca Suesser, 4th grade SRAE It would give me great pleasure to see Rebecca Suesser receive an honor for her dedication and enthusiasm in teaching the fourth grade at Slippery Rock Area Elementary! Mrs. Suesser has turned my shy son into a very enthusiastic and eager child who truly loves to go to school. Mrs. Suesser truly cares about each and every one of her students and wants to see her students succeed. Her sense of humor has created a relaxed atmosphere with her room of students who don't show fear of failing or worse embarrassment of their peers if they should fail. Congratulations to the recipients and thanks to those who nominated them! 1998-1999 EDUCATOR OF THE YEAR AWARD Recipients High School........Harry Beil and Marietta Carney Middle School......Mary Jo English Area Elementary......Cindy Monks and Jill Takach Har- Mer.........Andrea Mason Moraine........Louise Somerville Congratulations!
