What is ADHD?

DISCLAIMER: This Site is a resource one only!! Since I am indeed NOT a medical expert I went and did some research for this site in order to give more informed opinions... more factual information can be found through my links page!

It is a highly debated disorder and is under constant scrutiny in many areas. Some say it's purely nuerological, other say it's only psychological.

 

The outlining effects of this disorder are varied from individual to individual as are the treatment possibilities. There are many arguments over which method is in fact best for the individual and which are the most effective.

 

I have often had to describe, in layman's terms what this disorder is in order to make others understand. I will share that description here...

 

"Not only can my child not focus, he/she can't sit still long enough to focus!!!"

 

Does this sound familiar?

 

Truth of the matter is NOT all ADHD kids are hyperactive however. And to make matters worse there are a few other disorders that often go hand in hand with ADHD, like Oppostional Defiance Disorder.

 

I know what you're thinking...

 

"Isn't that a fancy term for kids who don't want to do what they're told?!!"

 

The answer is... "No!!"
