What Do I DO If I Suspect My CHild Has ADHD?

DISCLAIMER: This Site is a resource one only!! Since I am indeed NOT a medical expert I went and did some research for this site in order to give more informed opinions... more factual information can be found through my links page!

First thing you should do is make an appointment with you Family Practioner (Doctor). Discuss with him/her the warning signs you have observed and ask for their opinion as to whether or not a test for ADHD should be admistered.

What Do I DO If My Child Has Been Diagnosed With ADHD?

First off, in the immortal words of Douglas Adams....

DON'T PANIC.

Once it has been diagnosed, you must now sit down with your Health Care Professional (it won't always be your Family Practioner) to discuss treatment possibilities. (Feel free to research options on your own before hand, it will help!) Some of these may include Cognitive Therapy Techniques, diet restrictions and of course, medications.

Be sure that you have everything explained to you VERY thoroughly so you understand what's involved. Ask questions if you don't understand the "jargon".

But in my opinion, the most important thing you can do is reach way down inside yourself and grab hold of every ounce of tolerance and understanding that is there. BE THERE, for your child... it's even scarier for them.
