To become a Moslem, one simply needs to say: "Ash hadu al l ilaaha illal laah wa ash hadu an-an Muhammedar rasulul laah", which means: "I bear witness that there's no deity but Allah, and I

bear witness that Mohammed is His Messenger." To make such a declaration means that the person accepts the oneness of God and has faith in all the prophets and also in the revelations they received. Once that is accepted, you are a

Moslem. Like any other Moslem, some responsibilities are awaiting you because you are one of those who said: "I recognize that this is the truth and I accept it."

Once the faith is established, one must put it into practice. Practicing is an obligation for every Moslem whether male or female. The first act of devotion is praying.

It's a practice by which the Moslem connects himself to his creator. It requires not only the performance of certain movements and utterance of words and phrases, but a spiritual attention, a concentration on what's being done. Thus, Moslems must pray 5 times a day, which are:

- the early morning prayer

- the noon prayer

- the Afternoon prayer

- the Evening prayer

- the Night prayer

It's regular charity, which is imposed on Moslems for the well being of those who are poor. Remember we live in society and not all people enjoy the same level of wealth. Zakat is calculated each year at an individual level. Its rate depends on several factors: nature of wealth, its amount, ...

People can chose to give more than what they are supposed to.

Another factor is that the qur'an has defined the categories of people who are entitled to that Zakat.

It means to abstain from doing something. It takes place every year in the month of Ramadan (the lunar calendar). Fasting goes from the first light until sundown, during which time Moslems abstain from drink, food and sexual relations. Through fasting, the Moslem learns self-restrain, experiences pain (equality among the rich and the poor). This results in having compassion for the poor. Fasting also cleans your organic system. It takes the Moslem close to his creator.

It's the journey made to the sacred House of Allah (Ka'bah) in Mekkah (Saudi Arabia) for the purpose of observing certain religious rituals during a certain period of time. It's an opportunity for Moslems from different parts of the world to meet.
